 my s2000 vs a Chevy Avalanche.

I am constantly alarmed by the almost militant display of ignorance that Pontiac and Chevy drivers exhibit. I've had more Silverados, Grand Ams, Grand Prixs, Avalanches and the like try to race me in the straights (and occassionally around turns) than any other cars out there by a 5:1 margin. I can understand why 'excitement network' drivers are so enthusiastic, but what's the deal with Chevy truck-drivers? They forget they're not in their 'vette? (Interiors are the same, right?)

I found this site from a link on one of the Dodge Truck boards. You guys seem to have some really nice cars here and I'm not trying to bash Hondas, but not all big 4x4's are slow. I wouldnt stand a chance in the curves against you guys, but a straight run might be interesting.

5.9 it's nothing about the 0-60 of trucks. I just don't see the point of a big top heavy, back light, horrible aerodynamic, designed for hauling goods vehicle, or off road use needs to race a road car.
What is he trying to proove. Sure you can stick a huge engine in anything and make it fast for gods sake. I don't drive around with a sofa tied to the back of my s2000 and go next to a truck and say, "Hey look at me, I can haul too!", or put on mud tires and a 2 foot lift and say, "Hey look at me, I can go on trails." My vehicle is not designed for that.
That really is the point of this whole thread too. Sure you can stick a big engine in a truck and keep up with my in a straight line, but for skidpad, cornering, unless you totally change the truck around and lower it and add torsional stiffness and better the weight distirbution and better the aerodynamics...but by then you've ruined the truck and pretty much made it into the vehicle it should be for those things....a car.
Does that make sence on why I find this scenerio annoying?

When I sold my '01 S2000 back in December, I needed a vehicle to hold me over til April when I'm ready to take my new '04 S2000.
My dad wanted out of the lease on his '03 F-150, so I decided to take it.
I have NO IDEA how these people can drive aggresively in a truck. I get scared taking corners at half the speed I would in my S2000.
Quite honestly I think anyone driving a truck trying to match just about any sporty car in speed (like in the situation you described), is asking for trouble.

A lot of sports car guys drive trucks as daily drivers, myself included. The trucks will roll down the highway plenty fast, so if you're cruising in the fast lane, get your butt over and let the truck pass. I wouldn't even make an attempt to keep up with a sports car in the corners though.
As far as the ball bearings thing, I wouldn't recommend that becuase it would NOT be pretty if I caught up with you. That 2800lb. S2000 would be going into a ditch really fast when a 5500lb truck sideswipes you.
