From the RX-7 Forum.....

Actually, I found the thread somewhat comical. Everyone was talking as though there were a significant performance difference between the FD and the S2K.
From all the data I've seen, the FD is slightly heavier than the S2K (about 2800 lbs vs 27xx)) and makes 15 hp more stock. It should be a bit faster in a straight line, but a bit means a tenth or so. In a street race, or even at the drag strip, whoever leaves first will win with that differential.
The 3rd gen RX7 is a wonderful performing car (other areas were suspect) with excellent mod potential. But in stock form its a wash with the S2K.

From the tone of that thread, the RX-7 forum guys sound like very competitive people.
With those turbo wankels, it's hard to tell the difference between a boner and a beast. They can get a lot more power with some pretty easy mods.
I don't think there's any shame in losing to an "FD" RX-7. They're amazing. But a well driven S2000 should be able to put up the occasional good fight.
