Default S2000 v S2000

Only took purchase of my S2000 a few weeks ago and I am obviously still getting used to driving it. Two days ago another S2000 pulled up at a set of traffic lights with me and around 1000metres ahead the road merges from two lanes into one. I held the car at around 5000 rpm dumped the clutch and took off, yet the other S2000 had gained a car and a half's length on me after around 7000m and i was easily beat.

I caught up with the guy today in my local car park and showed me around his S2000, it was totally stock and thats when he told me about this site, I was just wondering if you could give me any advice on standing starts as I don't want to continue getting beaten.

The car is a 2002 model with, 29,000 miles on the clock. I know the driver makes alot of difference, my last car was a company car, a Volvo V70 T5 automatic, so i'm a bit rusty on the standing starts as you can imagine.

I would appreciate any help not criticism, thanks.

Launch at 6000rpm, you're most likely to bog with stock Potenza when launching at 5000rpm. Also did you redline every gear 'til you shut down? Best way to learn is by talking to someone in person, S2k owners are "mostly" friendly and would share a few pointer.

Is that 7000 meters? That works out to how many miles?

That sounds better, 1.5 car leangths differance isn't much after nearly 1/2 mile.

Yes 700 metres. Yes i did shift at the redline until i began to slow down a little, I am thinking about getting a new exhaust system as my car sounds a little high pitched and raspy for my liking, could you advise any favourite exhausts or manufacturers to consider ?

You can search, there have been a bunch of threads on exhausts lately.

If you want to try something before investing $500+ in an exhaust, look for threads on removing the exhaust resonator. It gives the stock exhaust a very nice tone without really increasing overall volume. I found it perfect for my '03, although '04+ has a little different exhaust note than the AP1s (not sure how one sounds with the resonator removed). Also to note, plugging the intake resonator with the exhaust resonator removed sounds way too farty IMO, but others seem to like it.
