Default S2000 vs 427 Cobra

Yesterday after work I was driving I95 at about 70mph when i see another roadster coming up. I knew it was an old one but wasnt sure from a vette or cobra! it was a 427 cobra with its top down, and it sounded mean. I let him go by and pulled behind him, his kid kept looking back as if he had done this before. i heard him step on it so i dropped to third and we went for it! I was barely gaining on him, but feel i could have have passed him if we didnt come up on a cop on a motorcycle! The 427 has been a car ive respected for a long time, it felt good!!

You must have a good running S. Last classic 427 Cobra test I saw, it was running mid-12s. The lastest Motor Trend has a quick test on the new Shelby 427 cobra. If I remember right it ran something like 11.7 @ 121. Might have been a little quicker. I may have to look into getting one of these S things.

Unless you are FI'd I would doubt that you could come anywhere close to a real 427 Cobra. Maybe since he had a kid with him, he wasn't about to go balls out. But still...even mild tooling around in that car should leave you smelling his fumes.

Why not just wave in respect for him. That's what I did when I saw a Cobra. And he waved back. That was so cool.

Maybe ot was a 289 Cobra. Those are still pretty fast. Hate to say is it was a 427 Cobra you would not be competitive. Just reality when the other car is essentially 4 wheels and a huge motor and not much else.

There are a few 427's here in Jacksonville that I know of and one of them belongs to a friend of a friend of mine and I messed around with him while running about 12 psi and 116 octane which should have put me at somewhere close to 400 RWHP and it was the only race I EVER lost while boosted. We ran several times... all from a roll and starting at varying speeds between 40-60 mph I didn't win a single one.

There's no way to know that it had a 427 block for sure. Any motor for that matter. I'm guessing that if the guy was really pushing it that he had a weaker engine in there, he just wasn't pushing it, left it in high gear, or drag coefficient really started to set in. Those things have some shitty top speeds. How fast were you guys going?

vtecvoodoo has a supercharged S2000 and got beat badly against a cobra a while back.

My friend has a 351 Cleveland, bored, in a Cobra and no S2000 would stand a chance.

btw, anyone seen that Z06 vs 427 Cobra vid?

Anyways, great encounter
