Default S2000 Vs Boxster S

Have a friend who had spyder mr2. after I bought my s2000 he had to go out and buy boxster s. We raced tonight. Since I have had my s2000 for a month and his box for a day we decieded not ot try to launch form light but do roll on at diff speeds. His already has 4k from prev owner and I have 2k so we are both broken in. I have neuspeed exhaust on mine on other then that we are both stock. First did a roll on at 25 both in first. pretty even till 50 then he pulled slightly ahead being 1 car lenght at about 80. that suprised me a little. I thought i would pull on him. Then went on highway and hit it at 60 till about 120. At the end i pulled one car lenght on him. Overall I think perf is pretty darn close. His advantage is off the line I cant make a miskake launching it. I will never catch up. He will win 7 out of 10 just on easier launching plus i dont enjoy side stepping clutch at 8000rpm anyway. Where his car does shine is interior. beautiful analog gauges plus pretty good stock stereo like anything would be better then s2000. Also nice climate control. And he has optional 18inch wheel package. I guess that is the reward of spending 20 grand more then s2000. I do like the exterior styling of s2000 much better. I dont think the box is very good looking and think the spoiler is tacky. Also honda reliability and inexpensive service is an advantage over the box. anyone else race a box s yet

Technically, the Boxter S is a bit faster than the S2K. However, it is heavier than the STooK. On the track, Boxter S and the STooK are in different classes.

I didn't "have" to go out and buy a Boxster S, I "wanted" to buy a Boxster S for some time, but was waiting to find the right one in Speed Yellow. Shall we talk about how you bought a yellow S2000 because your girlfriend rode in my yellow MR2 Spyder? Hmmmm?

I'd have to say that with the aftermarket exhaust on the S2000 that it comes pretty close to the Boxster S in performance, at least in speed in that we had no track to testing handling, etc.

For those interested, we took both cars out to the park today and took some photos, you can see them at

Of course my car is better looking because I'm in it...

The S2000 doesn't need anything more than stock to keep up or pull on a stock Boxster S. It's been discussed many times: exhausts add little to nothing (more nothing) in performance. Just music.

Neuspeed doesn't (as far as I know) claim an increase in HP or torque from their exhaust (a good thing, as 3rd party dyno plots show no increases). as far as i know, there is only one exhaust with dyno proven HP or torque increases and that's the Spoon single (i don't include the Mugen as they don't seem to provide a plot with just the exhaust - only of the exhaust and header combined). i could be wrong (for all i know the j's racing or amuse exhaust also have plots).

heh im not even gonna mess with one of those badboys cuz im a bad driver... anyway here was my experience, i was drivin around in my neighborhood and a silver boxter s also with a hardtop pulls up to the light reving like there is no tomorrow. as soon as the light changed i dropped the clutch at 5grand and bogged like crazy, i then shifted at red, but it was too late.
in desperate need of driving school!

Evidently it shows your lack of understanding of the Boxster S horsepower and torque curve. The Boxster S peaks at about 4600 RPM, then actually retreats back down a bit until nearly 6000 RPM when it bypasses the 4600 figure and goes on up until almost the limit.

The run where I pulled away from the S2000 I was shifting in the 4500 range, the run where we were dead even I was shifting in the 5500 range, neither time did I ever take it over 6000, so my comment about having more RPM and more pedal left was true.

All this means is that a driver that maximizes the potential of each car is going to do better than one that doesn't. I've had this car what 2-1/2 days now? I'm not going to be an expert, the fun we had the other night was merely a learning exercise for me. It paid off as I dusted the Mustang last night trying very hard to maximize my shifting potential. I anticipate my skills will get better, but the Boxster S isn't a drag car anyway.

As far as the S2000's performance vs. the Boxster S, I said above I thought it was pretty close, it is equal? No, if you believe that, I've got a nice flat stretch of road where we'll go from dead stop to max speed and see who gets there fastest and who hits the highest speed. The bottom line, is enjoy the car you purchased. I am in no way slamming the S2000, I think it's a great car, but I went with a Boxster S instead for all of the things about the Boxster S that I like, MY personal preference.

I know Mr. Laporta is very happy with his S2000 and he should be.

Oh and as far as spending more on a car, yeah I could have bought a Yugo too, but I didn't want one... I've very cognizent that people will spend more on a 911 or a 360 Modena, and I think they should, those are great cars too.
