S2000 Vs Boxster S
Ken,
I just have some quick questions... Here they go - Did you get rid of the MR-2 Spyder or do you still have it? Also - which do you like overall? Your M Series Z3, the Boxster S, or the MR-2 Spyder. Lastly, were you the one that bought the Ferrari? If so, how do you like that car? Ferraris are one of my dream cars and I'm just curious if its worth all the hype...
Thanks

Somebody race this Boxster dude.
I've raced a Boxster S from a stop and at speed on the highway with a driver who also seemed interested in seeing which is quicker. From a stop, launching at 7K on a warm, sunny day, I was a half car length on him until we stopped at 80. Once we got on the freeway, punched it from 65 and I pulled a little over a car length on him to 125.
Spoke to him while cruising at a safe 63 on the freeway and he told me he was trying the best he could with the car that he's been driving daily for 8 months, is a track guy, et cetera.
So I disagree with the Boxster S being quicker than the S2000. I'd love do another stock v. stock run to whatever on an empty stretch of asphalt.
It's too close to call. Driver v. driver, really.

Depends on how you quantify full size spare. The spare in the Boxster S is a much thinner tire but the wheel is fairly large and also it is an alloy spare, and the jack, etc. are also alloy to save weight. The wheel is painted a bright red, I'll have to see if I can snap some pics of it.
I concur that the interior of the Boxster S is nicer (in my opinion anyway) than the S2K, I've got a lot more creature comforts, including heated seats which the honey demanded.
I should also point out that my wheels and tires weigh less than the stock Boxster S, and I have the 030 suspension, both of which impact the performance, so in addition to the driver you must also take into account any options on the car and it is a known fact that some Boxster S's have more HP coming out of the factory than others. Porsche tests each engine individually and rejects any that do not meet a certain minimum. Ones that exceed this are not rejected so some owners actually end up with a peppier engine, estimates are between 5 and 10hp gain.
Let me know if you need more info!

Both are great cars. But I belive a Boxster S will have a some advantages on higher gear acceleration because of the better torque Line! you will really feels the difference once you are in 100MPH+.If you have extra money to spend, a boxster S will be a good choice!

Remember that Boxster has a lot better aero-dynamics than S2000 so the faster you go, the more advantage the BoxtserS has. Looking at one of the track tests between S2000 and BoxsterS that I have here, it shows that at the end of the straight the BoxsterS was pulling 234 kph comared to S2000's 226kph (they both left the previous bend at equal 126kph).
Another test shows the 2 cars equal to 100kph but the BoxsterS has a 1 sec advantage to 200kph.
ps. I saw a thread on the Boxster board that sais that in the last 2 years, all the dyno charts for stock BoxtserS so far have fallen into 215 - 225hp (at the rear wheel) range. S2000 on the other hand folls betweem 195 - 210hp. Though, BoxsterS always weights at least 30kg more that the S2000 so I think the difference 'from the lights' is more put down to the conditions that day and the two drivers than anything else. They are very evenly matched 'stock' vs 'stock' as lap times show ... there's always only a fraction of a second between the 2 cars. That is if you're judging the two cars at 'maximum' performance.

Yep, that's what most people see that they are pretty even and it comes down to driver and conditions and specifics of those cars (the last point was what I was trying to get across in my last message). You are correct that as speed increases the Boxster S gets more of an advantage from its better aerodynamics and more HP/torque, thus a higher top end, and of course a 6 speed doesn't hurt either.
I have a question about Camaros now. What is an LS1? I was trying to get to the store before 9pm last night when these two Chevy Camaros (Z28's whatever, didn't look at the badging closely) were blocking my path, they were jockeying back and forth and then took off. One of them clearly faster than the other and his license plate said "PHATLS1". Well I bypassed the slower Camaro and ended up next to the "Phat" guy at the next light. Mind you I'm just trying to make the store before they close, but of course this guy wants to run. Light turns green, he got the better jump, I'm still a bit tentative about dropping the clutch on this car, but I ended up catching him and passing him before we had to slow down for the next light and where he turned off. Disappointingly I missed making the store by about 2 minutes and they had already closed. What's with closing at 9pm? It's the internet age, everything should be open 24x7!!!
Anyway, I have no idea what an LS1 Camaro is, does anyone know?
