I just went out on a casual joy ride.
I was cruising along on the right most line and I see someting further up with quad chrome exhaust tips. As I approach it I realize its a GTP. I was doing about 70 or so when I passed him. He was on the left most line doing about 60 or so.

Well it didnt take long for him to want to catch up to me. There was traffic and all I saw was him weaving in and out of traffic while I was just cruising.

A redlight happens to catch me and I see him come closer and closer and now he is positioning himself on my right. I saw the look on his face and it was one that said: I want you. His car was black with shiny rims and quad chrome exhaust tips and red decals. Well I wasnt giving him the pleasure of racing at the intersection as this is a busy intersection and also there is almost 100% chance there is a cop lurking around in this particular intersection.

So when the light turns green he just sped off and did want to go at it but I didnt want to drop the clutch so I took off at 3500RPMs which all you guys know that just doesnt cut it against a car that has torque so he got about a 2 car lead. He is getting confident now which is good for me. so i keep following him and soon enough the road ahead is clear.

So im behind him following him doing about 70MPH, So he steps on, at which point i dropped to 3rd.Hes now about a car ahead. Hes more confident now. So I switched over to the left lane and said: "Here I come babe" I am pulling on him very hard now and finally in 5th I was still pulling on him until 105MPH when I had to shut down because of upcoming traffic. He was about a car lengh behind. It just felt great to be able to pass him while he was flooring his car.

So lets see he had:
v6, torque, hard top, aftermarket exhaust.

I had:
4 banger, no torque, top down, stock exhaust

I think i did pretty good.

Has anyone raced them from a dead stop and gone beyond 105MPH? i'd like to hear about it.

 

Is that a typo? 5th gear and going 105 mph?? 4th gear goes to 120mph... did you mean 5th gear at 125mph??

 

I was going to ask the same question....

Also, I believe our speedos read a little high (or the dyno reads a little low). My car said 120 at the top of 4th and the dyno said 114.x.

i cant beleive you didnt smoke this guy... i rode in a supercharged gtp.. i dont think they pull that hard at all, your s2k shoulda smoked him, besides- all gtp are AUTOMATICS!!!

im dissapointed in u...

 

my friend in dallas pulled 14.6 stock in his 2000 GTP.. their not that slow.. but you should beat him. if their smart enough to spend a extra $80 on a up'd boost pulley it should put them in the low 14's.. he was doing 14.2 w/ that and some other mods.

If it had an exhaust, I'd be willing to bet it had a smaller S/C pulley. I could keep up with stock GTPs in my GSR. They may have a lot of power and torque, but they are H-E-A-V-Y. I had much more trouble with the Regals that were S/C. Same engine, lighter car.
