Default s2000 VS modded e46 m3

My car:
2001 s2000, stock other than debaffled intake; Volk TE37, Mugen Hardtop

Him:
2003 BMW M3, JVT-R catless headers, no sunroof, B&B/Billy Boat Tri-Flow Muffler

My friend and I were on the highway and decided to line up since he just got his new clutch in and hasn't really had any play with it since then, NO cars were around!! We started at 60 and did the 3 beep 'GO', I believe I was in 2nd-we were ended up side by side with him inching through 3rd and in 4th he started pulling. We did it again and it ended up the same him pulling about 1.5 cars on me (2 at the most) which surprised both of us. He can't stop talking about how good of a run it was and how unsuspecting my car was especially since he's modded and has probably 100 horsepower on me.

Has anyone else had a run in with an E46 M3 with their stock/near stock s2000?

I figured, I had an E46 M3 at one time but it was an SMG and stock; still wouldn't expect the s2000 to 'kind of keep up' with an M3!

hmmm, I was next to one today that tired to get me to race multiple times, but just not worth it. Plus I ran one with my civic which was faster than my S2k and it was pretty much even, so I figured the S2k would have lost. Good race, sounds to me like the mods did not do anything for that car, because I would expect a stock M3 to get an AP1 by that much.

was his m3 a 6spd? perhaps he's a slow shifter?

with that much power differential after 100mph he should have walk you pretty good, but hey streets and numba racing are two different animals all together

good runs

Yes it was a 6 speed, and he has no reason to shift slow

Nope...stock for stock (333hp vs 237/240hp) the difference equates to maybe a 70RWHP difference and the mods the M3 has will yield almost zero power gains especially without any kind of ECU adjustment (ie. tune). The S should be relatively close to the M3 until about 80mph or so but the M3 always has the advantage...it's just the faster car. After 80ish mph and definitely in the triple digits the M3's adavantage becomes greater.
