Default smoked by a bug!!!????????

What the hell!? This is THE fastest bug I have ever seen.....sh*t!!!...I was at a stop light and here comes this bug and honks and revvs....err....ok? so I told him if he was sure and he tells me he has yet to loose a race..."there is a first time for everything" was my reply.

Even off the launch...he pulled a bit on first and second and after third he pulled away hard....all I saw was black smoke coming from his exhaust......damn!!!!!

Peace signs exchanged and I went home to see if I could dug out my tail from between my legs/...damn bugs!!

He HAD to be spraying and HAD to be boosting big...that's all I can think of!!!

was this a new model?

I know some of the older models have engine swaps. There are plenty of the old 70's style bugs that can dish it out.

It was just a matter of time. The old bugs could be modified heavily and cheaply. You could get new cylinder/piston/head kits that bumped the displacement to 2.5 liters for $800. My next door neighbor was getting 12.5sec runs with his bug. There was also a complete kit to let you drop a 351 V8 into the back of one. You had to flip the transmission and put the V8 in the back seat.

I'm pretty sure the new Beetle Turbo has the same engine as the Golf/Jetta turbo...which is the same as the Audi TT. Which means he was probably modded to more than 250hp.

If he seriously was putting out a lot of black smoke... I'd bet money that it was a turbodiesel. You can chip those and get a TON of torque. Toss on a shot of propane (nitrous for diesel motors) and he'd be running good.

If not... then it was a 1.8T. Those are pretty easily upgraded as already mentioned

That Bug probably has a S4 engine in there. I recall there was a feature in Car and Driver where there was a company doing moter swaps for every VW and Audi. If I remember correctly, a New Bettle with a S4 swap would cost around 60 large. The PERFECT sleeper I might add. Latez!

Ah yes...the proverbial street encounter we all eventually partake in...that being a beat down by a car in most cases, wouldn't even draw a second glance from us. You can make ANY car fast, even a Hyundai but when the exhaust fumes float away with the wind, it's still a Hyundai, or in this case, a bug.
You can rest easy knowing the faster one goes, the less time people see how cool you look getting there.
