Car is fine you just need practice is most likely IMO
Factors to consider
Topup>topdown.... were you both the same
Fuel: you likely had more in your tank
Driver weight: this could be a 1 or 2hundred lb difference depending on drivers...
A/C your was off, right; make sure next time
+ it was only half a fender difference anyway.. Cars were basically equal & someone has to win
Maybe he went WOT a couple tenths of a second sooner then you.

Your mods arent worthless but they dont make 'much' of a real world difference IMO

I say try tightening up the nut between the steering wheel and driver's seat. That should make the biggest difference.
