Default STi vs S2000

I own an '04 STi w/ turbo back exhuast (single high-flow cat). Was cruising around this evening and came up on a modded S2000, all I could physically see was 2 great sounding pipes coming from the back, trying to figure out if it was SC'd or had anything else done.

Anyways I rolled up next to him in 3rd gear doing about 40, I was already in power range and heard him downshift, as soon as he punched it I punched it, he pulled half a car from punching it first and then we pretty much stayed even other than the shifting pulls up to about 100ish.

We then came to a light, neither of us rev'd so I wasn't sure if he was going to go or not, so off the light I didn't launch, but he got a good jump on green and pulled about half a car again from 2nd to 3rd he pulled about to where my front end was at his back tire then as I got into 4th I pulled to his front tire then we shut down.

This is my first encounter with an S2k, so just trying to figure out what he had done if anything else than say exhaust intake? I've never gone to the track but based on other STis with TBE I'd assume I'm high 12 low 13s hopefully mid 12s after I install UTEC this spring.

i would have to say hes still n/a.

he wouldve pulled more if he had FI, esp from a roll where he downshifts to vtec

well thats what i would think atleast, unless he cant drive

not that i have raced anyone in my s2k

Yeah I would say he's still N/A...I had very similar results with my buddy's STI from 30-120, and he also had a turbo back exhaust. My S2000 only had I/E, and a VAFC. However his STI only had 1400 miles on it at the time, so...

Something is not right here. That S2K has to have more than just an exhaust, or there's something wrong with your STi. First of all, don't assume you're in the high 12s or low 13s just because you have a TBE. You have to actually drive the car right to get into the high 12s with just a TBE. Secondly if you were really pushing your car, you would've pulled on the S alot more. I have a 04 STi with helix/HKS, and I can pull on a NA S any day. I pulled on a stock one going from about 80 in 6th gear.

ya i have to agree as an s2k owner stock wrx's are somethin we can wax.

but a s2k with exhuast vs sti with TBE. no way our cars would win in this situation unless the driver of the sti SUCKS.

sti comes 300hp stock against a 240 stock. and sti has way more torque.

by far the sti would win should have pulled by atleast 3-4 cars.

at sealevel sti runs stock 13.2 and s2k 14 flat.

Its nice to see some respectable STI owners around. The ones I meet are usually dumb over confident kids and would never admit losing to any Honda.

I dont think that S was N/A. To pull on a STI in 3rd gear he had to have some major hp. A STI can run high 13's from a roll. You would have taken him if you launched the second time. to the driver of that S.

STi with TBE should be good for 270'ish awhp. If the S2K was NA, it probably had a lot of stuff done to it(I/H/E, V-AFC, short gear, etc), or the driver was really good. I have never ran any S2K with my EVO, but I'd love to try the SC'ed ones.

Don't know about that particular S2000, but an S with a decent supercharger setup should trap at 108 mph, and one with a decent turbo should trap much more.

From a roll that sounds feasible with some good N/A mods. From my experience the S will keep up with cars it shouldn't when it runs from a roll. However, I would think your STi would put 3 or 4 cars on the S from a dig with a good launch... I'm not sure how detramental a bad launch is to an STi, I know it makes or breaks the outcome of the S.

This is a tough one.
