Default Turbo LS Integra vs. GTI 1.8t

I know this isn't S2000 related, but I have no where else to post this..

I was heading home from Best Buy last night, when I came upon a nicely modified Integra.. This thing was sick. Dropped, rims, loud exhaust (but not obnoxious), gauges, you name it.. very tastefully done. Traffic was clear, and we were both at a red.. I pulled up staring over at them to see if they were up for a run.. As soon as they looked back the light went green, and neither of us had time to react.. I accelerated agressively for about a half second, then slowed back down.. As soon as I did, I heard the most evil sound coming from the Integra.. It was on.. Nailed 1st as he was approaching my door, wheelspin through 1st, and we're still even... I hear him shift with a nice BOV swoosh... I'm into second as well... 18psi.. Waiting for him to start pulling.. 3rd gear, where is he?? WTF, I thought, as he was about a car behind.. 4th gear, we both shut down, with me about 2 cars ahead. I threw on the hazards just to be an ass... Guys were really cool.. I asked them what they were running, and they said Turbo LS at 8.5psi.. They were like, "damn, that thing's pretty quick".. Told them I was at 18psi on the stock turbo with just a chip and MBC.. They were like

Anyway, it was fun. We ran one more time with the same result... I would pull immediately at the beginning of every gear, then they would inch back up toward the end of each gear.. I guess I just out-torqued them..

Fact is that 9/10 turbo cars, are just setup like shit and not prop tuned.. I've seen turbo LS vtecs run low 12 without a problem running 8.5lbs of boost and no internals involved. Not saying oyur 1.8 isnt something to be worried about but with most boosted tegs arent to be messed with..

That's the thing. I was expecting to get waxed because of all I've heard about turbo'd integras.. I figured I'd get a proper whoopin, but it didn't happen.. The car I ran was probably more like a mid 14's car.. It sounded like he had a lot of power, but it didn't last very long.. In other words, it was like, lag lag lag booooost shift... lag lag lag boooost shift.. He'd probably be faster on the top end of things.. My 1.8 on the other hand is more like boooooooooooost slowdown shift.. I hold 18psi from 2500rpm to about 4000rpm, then it tapers off linearly to about 10psi from 4000rpm to 7000rpm.. I'm probably in the mid to low 14's, but who really knows without running it at the track..

the b18 can be a beast when boosted. however, its no h23 i miss my prelude . for fun one day i might just build up a turbo h23 prelude; 2.3liters, dohc, and no vtec....mmm turbo.

its like they said, its all about tuning. i ran a 13.3 in my LS turbo @10psi on a Precision SC44. with B series engines though B18C over any LS/Vtec. (people waste their money on turbo ls/vtec setups) Good kill though.

Lots of turbo Hondas are untuned POSs or running some crappy GReddy kit with a tiny snail. You'd be surprised. Go to your local drag strip and watch them crack off 14s.

A buddie of mine on here has a 97 turbo prelude...Greddy turbo kit, but no tiny snail..Huge traction issues but once it catches its a rocket. H22 DOHC Vtec Turbo. Bad ass lil car. We have yet to line up yet...I'm eager to see the outcome.
