Default VR4 vs S

One of my wifes clients owns two VR4s. They both had exhaust work done, but I'm not sure what else yet. My wife told him that I had an S2k and the guy lit up like a christmas tree (or so she tells me). He said he wanted to take a look at it and play with it (but of course no one touches my S).

Curious to see what he has under the hood. I have seen both VR4s. They are about 2 years apart in styling, both with the 3rd brake light on the wing spoiler. They both have aftermarket exhausts and 18s on them. Haven't seen under the hood, but I believe he has probably modified them somewhat.

I'm probably going to meet up with him eventually (he has some tools I would like to borrow to work on the S with) and he'll probably want to run, though not sure we will be able to.

I did a search and it seems that a stock VR4 might be an even race, but a modified one is a loss for the S. I'm all stock, power wise. Plan on getting a FIPK and the Q300 exhaust within the next few months, but not anytime soon.

Thoughts?

A had a friend who had a VR4..very nice cars for their time. Well here are the specs:

320 Horsepower @ 6000 rpm, 315 lbs.-ft. Torque @ 2500 rpm
AWD

Weight - 3781 pounds
0 - 60 mph : 5.4 seconds
0 - 100 mph : 13.6 seconds
(stock times)
1/4 mile - 13.7 響mph

I would say the VR4 has a slight edge since we all know most Stock s2k's don't run 13.7's...but since the car is like 15 year olds it may not run up to par. But if it's modded then I don't think you have a chance since your're stock right now.

if he's stock
from a dig, he'll probably edge you out if he knows how to launch. from a roll, you have the advantage.
if he has anything more than exhaust he'll probably beat you. all he needs is a boost controller.

all he really needs is a boost controller plus an exhaust most likely gave him a nice power increase. i doubt our S2k's will b able to hang unless we have some sort of FI.

Thanks for the feedback...along the same lines I was thinking. I'll have to find out what else has been done. Hope to do that real soon too.

Yeah, they have 320 hp.......but VR4 is a real pig. Probably weighs in excess of 3500 pounds. Overly complex also.....to many electronic do dadds that will fail given enough time ie active spoiler, active exhaust etc

I've owned 2.

The correct weight is 3790-3850 with the brother stealth TT's slightly lighter. The AWD adds a lot of weight compared to the regular N/A's at 3300.

Pretty much every VR4 out there has the intake / exhaust / boost controller mod which puts them at around 400 crank hp and trapping @106.

Stock a healthy VR4 will pull on an S slowly from a roll... From a dig you won't stand much chance. Stock they have similar stats to an EVO / STI in straight line speed / dig.

All this being said the S2000 is the better car x 1000

I've owned a VR-4.

As per 07RioS2k's post, if the VR-4 is running well, it will pretty much pull slowly on the s2k at any speed. Sadly, them majority are not
