Ok, I really have owned both. Being that mine was a 99 VR4, it was very healthy. That being said, I think it's pretty much a drivers race with the edge going to a healthy VR4.

The last years of VR4's can beat an S2k, outside of those s2k gets it (if you don't account driver ability that is).

off the line a "MODDED" vr4 is faster than the s2000. all wheel drive and turbo make it hard to beat. i never raced one and didn't know what to expect. (this guy even had a passenger) my car is not stock either / no forced induction / i/h/e/ cusco clutch and flywheel / stiff tein ra's. anyway we raced from a dead stop shy of a quarter mile, we were only able to pin out three gears, then run out of road (dead end). from a dead stop we both had good launches, him being all wheel drive just spooled up and took off 1 - 1/2 to 2 cars through gears 1 and 2 on me, until we hit 3rd gear and i maxed out at 87, he only had a 1/2 car on me. if i could have pinned fourth i probably could've passed him, i gained at the end. but off the line, ? ? ? they're too fast. as an example of how fast this vr4 was, i put 3-5 car lengths or more on an 03 blue modded wrx with intake / downpipe / exhaust / reprogrammed ecu, 3 times in a row. I took it off the line, every gear, i owned it. gears 1-3. But as for the sti hell no, wouldn't have a chance!!!!!!!! i'm not talkin shit i just want to be as descriptive as possible. MODDED VR4 FAST

Stock VR4s are mid 13 second cars so as long as it's not a tired engine or clutch he should beat a stock S2000 in 1/4 mile. 94 and up VR4 probably has .5 second advantage over an S2K with most of this being in the first 60' BUT this assumes a pretty fresh clutch and engine and the older the VR4, the less likely he is getting his whole 320 hp. Turbos get a little tired even tho their not cooked, clutches get a little slippage, even tho their not roasted, and bingo, the 13.5 car is a 14.0 car(if it's driven right). On top of this the good ET requires dumping the clutch at 5000 rpm or higher(reving and dumping will get anyone sub 2.0 60' times) so if the guy doesn't want to beat on his car(the tires hardly chirp, it's more of a clank)he is a high 13 second car, even if the engne and clutch are tight. If you are good enough to pull the 13.8 1/4 a couple of mags did with the S2k you have a shot at beating any stock VR4 because most people can't duplicate the magazine times. From a roll the AWD advantage is gone so it should be almost a dead heat., even if you meet the guy who is capable of squeezing 13.4-13.5 out of the Mits. Modified is a different matter. With a boost controller and a couple of exhaust mods these cars can run high 12.s.

the vr4 that beat me was a 99 most likely, "clean car". these guys were way too eager to race, it was probably a low 13 sec. car / a mid 13 car on the street, explains why i lost.

Just had to jump in on this one since my first true car love was the VR4 I heavily modded and raced on the IDRC drag circuit 2 seasons until money ran out. Trust me, I LOVE my S2000, BUT the S2000 is not in the same league as a VR4 when it comes to drag racing. Even from a roll, the S2000 will have no chance, unless heavily modded with some kind of forced induction. Stock I was running 13.7-13.9. $5.00 later (industrial strength bleeder valve) I was going 12.8-12.9 @ 105-108. Then lots of $$ later 11.4-11.7.

Yes-out of the league. I know everyone's ego can sometimes be a little fragile when it comes to the car they own, but I've had them both, driven them both extensivly, and the VR4 can easily walk away. I love my S2000 also, but it's the way it is. The only way the S2000 challenges is when the race go's on for a while. The S2000 would have to play catch up after the VR4 pulls several car lengths at the start. And seeing how the stock VR4 1/4 mile trap and S2000 trap are close, the race would have to continue on and maybe the S2000 could at some point catch up. A hardship would be placed on the S2000 because of 2.0 liters and 4 cylinders where as the 3000GT would have some extra breath up top too because of 3.0 liters, a V6, and a couple of turbos pushing through air.
