Walked a 911 ,,2001 MODEL
He's not fully stock. Have you also considered the possibility that the Porche driver didn't downshift into the optimum gear, or he wasn't as good of a driver ( short-shift etc) I mean geez ANYTHING can happen on the street! No one is claiming the S2K is faster, only that things fell in this guys favor for this particular race. How many times has someone here lost to what should have been the slower car??? Plenty. Anything can happen, otherwise, what would be the point of posting the race, just post the cars involved, the stats, and that's the end...
Steve is that your example of me posting my opinion as FACT? I pointed out the POSSIBILITY of the driver of the Porche making mistakes. I pointed out that ANYTHING can happen on the streets ( a FACT ), and I pointed out that many on this board have posted experiences of slower cars keeping up because of not downshifting to the correct gear, or the other guy getting the jump etc. So again I ask, what are you talking about? I don't see any opinions here being posted as fact. Rather, those who were on here making claims that this kill was impossible, were the ones posting their "opinions" as fact. Go jump them, and quit wasting my time. You are quickly reminding me of why I don't post on this board very often.

Which magazine did you get those numbers from? I am not doubting that the 911 is faster than the s2k, but those numbers seem a bit fast even for the carrera. I have raced a friend's 2002 carrera b4 with my m3 and it was pretty much dead even up to 100, after that, I might have pulled 1 foot on him to 130
There's a lot of magazines around at the moment that have the new M3, new 911, Nissan GTR as well as EVO6/7 compared to each other. There was EVO mag few months ago, locally Motor/Wheels had them as well a fair few times over the last 6 months. In all the comparisions the new 911 beats all of the cars in terms of acceleration ... sometimes there's not much in it, but it does have the edge. The 2001 911 has been compared to a fair few cars over the last year so there's a lot of references as well. The 0-xxx mph times are from the current magazines but the 1/4mile time is just a range - 13.0 - 13.5secs is what I see very often ... ie. 1sec quicker then S2000.
Though, what you described is very realistic observation ... now tell me how close to your 2002 M3 is your S2000 in terms of acceleration?
So merely a .5 second jump on him would have made it hard for the Carrera to catch up
Not with a 911 vs S2000 scenario - 911 can give you a 2 sec lead and still has a good shot at passing you shortly after the 1/4 mile mark (ie. when S2000 is doing ~105mph). The tiptronic/auto in Porsche is not that slow ... it's actually very quick. Yes, it looses some time of the standing-start but it's only about 0.3sec over a manual. And once it's actually moving it's 'rolling start' acceleration numbers are very close to the manual. Tiptronic has got worse response time compared to a manual, but that does not matter when you have it floored.
Low 14 second car more often, there is no proof that his car has run a 13.6 -- and I'll be the first one to say that time will never happen with a stock S2000.
You can't look at the best S2000 time and compare it with the worst 911 time. Take best times from both, or the worst time from both (or the average) ... but you can't have 'best' for S2000 and the 'worst' for the 911. Theres 1sec difference when you look at 'best' and more like 2sec when you look at the 'worst'.

911 is so much faster then an S2000 that even a 911 in the 'wrong' gear (ie. one higher) at all times will still take an S2000. You guys seem to realize that a new M3 is 'that' quick, but you seem to miss the point that the 2001 911 is just as fast.
(911) there's no way they are hitting 60 mph in 4.5 secs. The all-wheel drive turbocharged bad boy isn't much faster than that 0-60 and it's got 115 more hp and FI.
Yeah, 4.5 might be tad exadurated for a 911, but 4.6 I've seen. They usually clock them in 4.7 - 5.0 range. That means when as S2000 is hitting 60mph in 5.3secs, then 911 is hitting in in 4.6. Whn the S2000 is hitting it in 6.0 then the 911 is doing it in 5.0.
About the Turbo - I've seen a magazine get 3.7 sec out of a Turbo and low 11s for a 1/4mile (@ 122mph). 'plain' 911s trap at 112 - 114mph for the 1/4mile.
I'm sorry guys, but 911 is so fast that you might as well start posting struff like this about F360s and Vipers ... it's just not going to happen unless the other car is not trying or he leaves in in 3rd gear from the lights or in 4th/5th in rolling starts.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like 100% pure bullshit and posts like this only make us S2000 owners look like complete retards. Our cars are freakin awesome, yes, but seriously now. Puuhleeez.
It's posts like this that cause people in other performance cars to sneer at me while I drive with the top down.
