$399 for $5,000 theft protection policy.. Is it worth it???
Ok, so possibly buying an S2k soon, and the finance manager at the dealership told me about a theft policy through a company called Beacon.. What it is, is if your car gets stolen, and is a total loss, you get $5,000 dollars, no fine print with it or anything.. It is pretty much clean, cut, and dry... Do you guys think this would be necessary, or even worth it??
Any help will be greatly appreciated..
Also, I thought the '04's were nearly impossible to steal, atleast without a tow truck, due to the laser-cut keys...
Oh well, please respond with comments..
Thanks

Sounds like a ripoff to me. How often have you ever had your car stolen before? Most people have never had a car stolen. Is S2000 theft really that big of a problem down there in FL?

My uncle bought his wife a celica with something that sounds similiar to beacon. If the car is stolen or totalled they give him a brand new car for nothing. No down payment...no bs charges. Its like $15 extra a month.

I am a salesman, what it sounds like there trying to sell you is called window etching. They put serial #s on parts of your car so if it gets stolen chop shops wont take it. If it does get stolen they will pay 1000 dollars of your insurance deductable. If its not recovered in 30 days they will give you 5000 dollars. It also saves you on auto insurance. Mine does a 15% discount for having it or 20% in combination with a passive alarm system. We sell ours for 289. 399 sounds steep.
What they dont tell you is that the serial #s can be removed pretty easily. Check with your insurance company for discounts. It might be worth it if you can save 20% on your bill.

actually i was offered this deal last time i bought a new car, and upon researching i found two types of coverage. One, with the vin etching in the windows, if your car is stolen and is a total loss they will pay you $5,000, however that $$$ has to be used to purchase a brand NEW car from the same dealership you received the vin etching at.
The other type, is what is called gap insurance....which is if your car is stolen and a total loss they will pay the gap between what the insurance company says its worth and what you owe on it up to $5,000 so actually you only win with the vin etching if you plan on being a repeat buyer!!

The service is not window etching, which I originally thought it was... What it is is they put some serial numbers on the actual body, that can only be seen by a black light... Similar to window etching though...
If I do purchase the car, it will be leased through american honda, which includes gap insurance
