$41k S2000
One long rant....You might call me a car nut...BUT I have owned a TT, Boxster, and now S2000.....I am a huge Porsche fan, but I like pure sports cars with any badge. The S2000 is a pure sports car. I looks like one, it drives like one...and it sounds like one. The TT is a GREAT Car!, but it is not as quick as the S2000...but it is a lot of fun. I only like the TT Coupe...the TT ragtop loses the TT's real charm....the cool roof. The TT roadster is even more of a look at me car than the Z3 ( all of this is open for debate, this is one persons "whine") The Z3 is TOO MUCH...too much decoration, too much on the interior, it is a "style car", only the M ( way out of your price) range delivers an engine that carries all the weight of the car into a sports car mode...and I would argue not a very good one. ( The M Coupe is a different story...it is a real drivers car). Do you see a trend here...great cars ruined by adding softops??? Z3's are too be seen in....S2000's maybe, but it is so much more of a drivers car. The hard top is NOT NEEDED ( although I like the looks)....the wheels do not need to be changed ( although I did on mine, and I am sacrificing some performance for looks here...kind of). The S2000 is a great roadster from the start.....like the Boxster. Boxsters are just as reliable as S2000's ( I see people whine about how unreliable the STk is and it reminds me of my days on the Boxster board....but the few that complain paint the picture of unreliability in a mostly reliable car. ( Boxster and S2k) Boxsters are beautiful and functional...I loved mine, but I loved the 993 even more and swapped out got a 993. 993's are the best air cooled Porsches....period. Didnt mean that... Boxsters are more common ( but not by much it seems in Seattle) and they cost more money. The sound of a Boxster going past 5000 rpm is one of the coolest sounds ...But IMO so is the S2k going from 6 to 8.5 ....Great sounds from two great cars. I have come to love the simplicity of the S2k...as cars get more complex ( See idrive in the new BMW's) cars like the S2k are going to become reminders of our earlier cars that where built for one thing.....to drive. Boxsters IMO are better looking cars than the S2k, but I can see how someone would prefer an S2k over a Boxster when you take everything in consideration....like MONEY.
The 350Z is going to be a winner...but again, great cars are ruined all the time with softtops....but the Stk started as a roadster....and it is a true roadster and nothing else. the New Z sounds very promising, but dont equate more HP with better performance....I doubt the new Z will be faster than the S2k on the track, or even 0-60. ...but owners of Boxsters know that 0-60 isnt everything....as an S2k owner, its more fun to be faster than the Boxster and Boxster S....for now. ( the new Boxsters eventually will as fast or maybe even faster)
Net/Net.....its all about the s2k. It is really a great value
OK, I was really going all over the place.....excuse my rant.
Cheers!

Why do people still think that they only import 5000 S2000s a year to the US?
Because the salesperson told you so? There is an official Honda report, showing the sale of S2000s in the US for the year 2001 was more than 8500. There are owners with Vin # above 9000.
