i just got a new '08 CR [black] and still have my '00 ap1 silverstone/red with a later factory hardtop[car purchased new at a nearby dealership on nov. 17, 1999 with 2.4 miles on it]...as i recently bought a new full set of s02's for the original 16" factory rims and the car has 26k easy miles on it it would be a good time to do a side-by-side.....the '00 is as new and the '08 has 175 miles on it so i will have to be nice to it till it's broken in....if you have any questions -fire away...
[an interesting first realization is that all the stuff we did ourselves in the early days..alloy dead pedal, short shifter knob, headrest speakers, CLOCK,console cover, etc are all now standard....my only mod way back was a spoon strut bar which,[ interestingly enough] is not on the latest s2k. first impression; the old car is much more raw and requires a lot of attention to drive fast; oh yeah..see below..
1999 out the door with red interior and deck spoiler, tax ,lic and dealer rape=$48865.41
2008 out the door black CR with top/spare delete. tax lic etc..$39562.79
supply and demand kids!!
oh..need to find a good home for the silverstone/red. pm me

What i want to know is how could you only put 26k on your car in 9 years? I put that on my car in a year. I notice with these car people dont drive them at all or they are like me and wont get out of them. I could never own a car like this and not drive it. I have 81k on my 04
tlr9, dbw,
I too have a Berlina Black CR! So we three represent a full 1% of all the black CR's in the world, eh?
I have not driven earlier S2000's, only sat in them. I drove the CR on some hairpin turns that I am familiar with, (via my previous Camaro Z28 and M/C,) and at my usual "sporty" speeds, with only part throttle, maybe 30%, the CR rear end stayed glued to the pavement! Usually I can get either a wiggle or a push out of any car on these turns. I ran out of hairpins before getting either, and had no time for a return pass that day. So, "badass grip" = true. I need to up my driving skills. This is good!
The CR is both stiffer and more compliant than the old BMW 1600 and 2002's I owned. It was easy to lift the 1600's inside rear, the 2002's inside front. They were light, fun, momentum cars. And 6400 rpm redline wasn't bad, then, either. The Z28 only weighed about 400 lbs more, but felt absolutely ponderous in comparison to the CR on these turns.

As an AP1 -> AP2 -> back to AP1 owner, I'm interested in seeing the rest of your impressions.
What is wrong with the people who cannot see what it is that some of us like so much about the early cars? I can understand some initial confusion, but how can people still fail to understand after it's been explained to them a few thousand times? There is something wrong somewhere, becaue that's just not right.
Anyway, thanks for chiming in. I know you're not the only person to follow this path, but you may well be the only one who posts in this thread. Not that anyone else does or should care, but apparently you and I have similar taste in cars.
To bad some people are too hard headed and/or egotistical to accept logical explinations as to why this is so.

I have yet to drive a CR (
), but the GM at our local Honda dealer is supposed to give me a call when they get one in that I can take out for a spin. No pun intended.
I know it will piss some of the standard AP2 weenies off, but the CR is the first S2000 built for the US market since 2003 that I'd even consider owning. Even though I haven't driven one, it's obvious (to me) from just the specifications that they're a sweet ride. If someone here in Georgia will let me drive their CR, I'll let them drive my modifed AP1. I can assure you that you won't be dissipointed.

My exhaust is so loud that you can't listen to music too well in my car, much less have a conversation. The suspension is stiff and I have Bride seats that do not recline and have side bolsters so high that you can't move at all in the seat.
It's my daily driver, my only car, and I love every minute of it. I consider a car a form of enjoyment and not a method of sole transportation (I use public transportation often).

A more raw ride wouldn't work for me as a DD.If you enjoy that, you would love my Birel kart. As stiff a ride as you will find using frame flex for suspension. The seat is fiberglass with no pading or fabric and is fitted so it grips around your ribs and hips. You need a rib protector to keep the seat from breaking ribs in heavy G corners
Seats like that let you know what the vehicle is doing at all times. The kart isn't too loud but I do use ear plugs and a helmet. The dash looks a lot like the S2000's but it has shift lights and records everything.
