Default 00 version of S2k

I saw some 00 s2000 for sale for like 11-13k , is it actually worth it to buy it as i heard there is some problems with it( anyone know what it is?)

or i will be better off paying 2-3k more for a 02 03 model?

cause i only have a budget up to $15k and would like to get a great one.

any opinions pls contribute thanks a lot

Get the 02-03.
Plastic window gets annoying beause it defeats the purpose of having a power top since you need to get out and make sure it folds down correctly.
Carpet thing I don't mind so much.
Oil bolt I do mind.
But overall, I'm happy with my S, but if you can spring it, it's definitely money well spent.

-more prone to oversteer
-plastic rear window
-possible clutchbuzz
-carpet 'center console'

none i have a problem with or worry about

just remember, if you don't have enough $ for it now, you can get one in a few years. It's not going anywhere.

I went out way to find a clean MY00 car because I'm an old guy and the plastic rear window, carpeted transmission tunnel, and more basic trim level reminded me more of the great sports cars I loved so much when I was younger. If you're not a sentemental old fart like me you'll be happier with an MY02-03 car, but whatever MY you get, don't rush into anything and wait until you can find a car that has all service records and is in good condition. If possible have an experienced S2000 mechanic go over the car before you buy it. The condition of the car you buy is more important than the MY (but save for an MY02 or newer, because you will appreciate the improvements).

the 01 has a clock on the radio

the 02-03 are definately nicer, but i'm happy with my 01

just make sure all the service records are there, and the tsb's are all taken care of. clutch buzz, spark plugs to name a few.

for 15k I'd rather get a lower mileage 00-01 than a higher mileage 02-03 even though I agree the improvements are nice. See what comes up but I say lower mileage garage queen FTW given your budget

02/03 for 2-3K more? You can get a new glass top for 500 bucks, and oil jets for 50 dollars. There I just saved you 2500 dollars. Go buy some suspension and wheels with the leftover money

I like my plastic window and carpet console!

There have been changes every two years, but the MY04 and newer cars are probably out of your price range. Anyway, in MY04, in the US at least, they stopped making real S2000's and started making S2200's; They just didn't change the badges. (Just kidding. MY04 and later cars have a larger 2200cc engine with a lower red line and a BUNCH of other changes.)
