If the AP2 is "mint" except for some scratches on the rocker panel (not dented), its an obvious choice - three years newer, 20k less mi, upgraded car.

The rocker panel is dented, and scratched.. about a 6 inch area.

The AP2 has 20k MORE miles.

Other than that, it is mint.

Then I read it wrong - go with teh AP1 - you don't want to mess with replacing rocker panels, and 20k less miles is better.

Have you driven both? Or if not those particular cars -- have you ever driven both an AP1 and an AP2? People rarely seem to mention this in comparisons.

I have not driven an AP2...

I had an AP1.

I figure I could get that rocker panel fixed for $100-$200 through a friend of mine.

The plastic back window and carpet center console are what kill the AP1 for me.

The mileage on the AP2 are what hurts me there..

Carpeted console is a plus.

hehe, his s2k age is 2 years and 187 days so he made it a while back, but for that particular reason.

20k miles isn't that big of a difference. I'd say go drive both, see if you prefer one over the other. The top can be replaced easily as I'm sure you can find someone that'll buy the plastic window one at a discounted price. The rocker panel is also easy to fix. The center console you can recover with vinyl if you don't like the carpet. Seems like you only need to concern yourself with which one do you feel more comfortable driving in? Get some seat time in them and get back to us.

+1 on the test-drive idea.
AP1 vs AP2 seems to be a personal preference. I drove both while looking for mine and I think I would have been happy with either.

But the AP1 I had drove much better than the AP2 examples I test drove.

From the sound of it though, the AP1 you mentioned would probably appeal to me more...it's unmodded which might indicate that it was driven gingerly, and there is no damage. The AP1 probably has never been in an accident, whereas the AP2 has been, albeit a minor one...but you never know the whole story behind it.

just cause its stock does not mean iot was babied.

Many s2ks were autocrossed in A stock which means they may have low miles for the fact that they only were weekend and autocross cars.

A modded car may have been someone who had no intentions of racing the car but like the looks and sound of mods(many people i know do plenty of mods and dont go near a track)

my point is you will never truly know what the car has been through unless the person you are buying it from is the only owner and he tells you what he used it for.

plus 80k is not that many miles for a well kept honda. Plus i own an ap2 so im biased there AP2 FTW!
