Default 01' Getting a new transmission

Well I just purchased the car a few weeks ago from a non-local dealer and drove it home.
After getting home I realized that the transmission needed extreme force to get into reverse.
So I called the dealer they agreed if I drive back they will fix everything, so today they called me and told me that they are replacing my transmission. Strange part was he told me that reverse and first are stripped, and I had absolutely NO problems with first or (or any forward gear) at all.

Now the one they are giving me is not new, it has 21K miles versus the 56K on mine.
He said it was an 04, but wasn't sure.
I told him that the ratios were different and that it would throw off my speedometer, but he assured me it wouldn't (he is wrong, I think ).
I am going to have him put the new honda MTF fluid in it.

How will AP2 gear ratios be on a stock AP1?

Is there anything I should be looking for when I get this back?
Im just nervous because out of the three weeks I've owned it, its been in the shop for almost two

ap2 tranny > ap1 tranny. shorter 1-4, longer 5-6. just what an ap1 needs. get a 4.44 final drive and have the ultimate combo.

If its a reputable guy doing the swap, you will come out better in the long run. Swapping the AP2 transmission (meaning 2004 and up) into an older AP1 is very common. Hardtopguy, stratocoster, and many others I can think of have done this. Its got a more aggressive gear ratio in 1st - 4th gear and a taller 5th and 6th (as 22calbr said). It also has carbon syncros as compared to the brass in the AP1 tranny. You will be happy with it, assuming the guy does a good install. Good call on the new MTF as well. One thing you really want to do is have him inspect the clutch when he pulls the tranny . . . . I would at least put a new clutch disc in while the tranny is down . . . this is the primary wear part on the clutch and the disc is cheap ($100-200) but the labor is $500-1000 for the install. Might even consider the hardtopguy clutch kit upgrade as long as he has it down. When I had work done on my ap2 by the dealer for a TSB, I had the hardtopguy kit installed and I LOVE it on mine. Just a thought, but at least have him inspect it.

I'd also go ahead and change the fluid in the engine and diff if you haven't already . . . maybe even inspect the valvetrain for safe keeping.

Thats a good idea. I will have them check out those parts, I would imagine that since the transmission was busted there might have been some premature wear on the clutch parts too.

So is my speedometer going to display accurately then?

You only have to worry about getting a yellow box calibrator if you fool with your final gear ratios in the diff. So yes your speedo will be ok with changing out your tranny.

You should upgrade your pp and friction disk and not just rely on a inspection...labor is the big expense getting to these items.
