I just bought a 2001 (black on red) from a dealer in the midwest. With the 2002's on the way, I could tell there was pressure to move inventory. The internet and priceline allowed me to have several dealers competing for my business and I was able to get mine at over $1000 below msrp. This may not make up for the lost residual value when the 2002's are out, but after my test drive it was worth more to me to drive one now than to wait a few months.

The jerk dealer never said anything about the plastic window and after only a week of use, I have a couple of scratches and a big ding! I wish I knew about this site earlier.

Yeah, this site is very resourceful. I just got mine a month ago and I love every minute of driving it. I think I could have gotten a better price. There is a dealer around here with over 10 2001s and he is selling them under MSRP. Somehow I feel like the S2000 is not as high of a demand as it used to be even though we only get about 5000 a year.

I bought my 2001 blk/blk from Jim Coleman Honda in Clarksville, MD. It came with factory spoiler, chin spoiler, titanium knob, seat bag, and pinstripes (I had them remove those). I paid $500 over MSRP which I thought was worth it, frankly. I had my heart set on a blk/blk car and they were very difficult to come by in the DC area about 2 months ago.

I have never seen a 2002, however, I must say that I would not wait. If you had your heart set on the blue (which I am not too fond of) then fine. I don't think the glass rear is all that big a deal as some people do. Plus, I actually like the "carpet" covering on tranny inside. Sure it has a metal deadpedal (which we can buy for ~$50) and tweeters but I kinda like the radio (granted - the tweeters are a major plus but I don't like their placement). So - '01 is the way to go as far as I am concerned. For my two cents it is still the best until the Type-R comes.

BTW - Jim Coleman Honda was EXCELLENT. I highly recommend them.

I talked to a number of local dealers who either had a 2001 in inventory or had one on the way. Granted that the S2K is a sweet car, but these guys were coveting them as prized collectibles and not interested in making a sale.

I made my case to all the regional dealers that had inventory that:
1. convertible season is over....all the s2k's up north will go into storage within the next couple of months and when they come out, the 2002's will be on the road.
2. the 2001 production run was larger than the 2000 run
3. the current economy would suggest to most purchasers that their $32K can be better spent elsewhere.

Some agreed, and were willing to talk, but most had a set policy about selling their s2k's and they weren't willing to work with me, the customer. One salesman at Bud Kouts Honda in Lansing, MI actually told me (after I suggested that by not willing to work with me, they weren't willing to make a sale) that they will definitely, eventually sell their car, just not to me!!

I broadened my search a tad and found a much more flexible and agreeable (albeit not too knowledgeable) dealership in Hatfield Honda in Maumee, OH who cut me a great price on the car and gave me a good trade in value on my accord.

Iceman....how do you push down to $900 over at Andersen?
Can you tell me which sale sold the car to you?

Which dealer? I bought mine in 11/1999 from Rosenthal Honda in Tysons. They were the only place willing to sell it without the markup (i.e., at MSRP). I stopped by not too long ago, and they had plenty of S2000s on their lot. They also have a good service department.

Wait for the 02'!! The glass rear window will make a big difference for you during the winter. Plus the blue is really nice, kind of like the sky blue. Remember, it is the only blue interior available for Honda.

Billbosh, I went to Rosenthal Honda last month to try to buy one of the S2000s. They won't give any up for under 37K!!!! I was ready to buy with the check in my hand too. One of the sales manager said that they buy these cars from other dealers all over the U.S. and the Dealership (Rosenthal) WON'T LET THEM GO FOR UNDER WHAT THEY PAID. What the Hell???!!!! I was so pissed off at Rosenthal Honda. I said to him, "who ever buys this car from you for 5K over MSRP is a dumb ass, and he was a dumb ass for buying it for 5K over from other dealers. The year's production is pretty much over. They're still trying to rip me off. I also went to Landmark Honda later, and the guy was trying to get 3K over MSRP!! This manager from Landmark told me that they get these cars at AUCTIONS!!! He also said they come and go in a heartbeat. OK sure...... What the Hell???!!!! Of course, I went to another dealer, Ourisman Honda. They wanted to sell me a S2000 with almost 900 miles at MSRP and he also told me that this was the last one from them for the remainder of the year and the 2002 models won't be out until next FEBURARY!!! I HATE THESE CAR SALESMEN!!! These are the people who give car salesman a bad name. I finally went to Herson's Honda, where they gave it to me at MSRP with a spoiler and paint protection (it was already on the car).
