You'll have more fun in the S. I wouldn't give up my S even for a C6, let alone a 99 C5.
Yea Vette's are nice, but there is more to a driving experience than straight lines.
When the day's done, I wouldn't look twice at it. S2000's get a double take

First person to vote for a vette.

I am a bit torn. Same price range. Just apples and oranges. One of good thing about the S, noone bothers me on teh road. My buddy always has some muppet trying to race him. I can see that getting annoying.
When we went out for drives very rairly would someone want to race, keep in mind it didnt have many visual effects but the sound was just plain mean. Most any ppl would back off after hearing it unless they have a fast car. It was supercharged, Long tube headers, high flow converters, converter back exhaust, upgraded ram intake, rear geared the diff, short throw shifter, ecu, and some other odds and ends. He lived in New York. The car was stored here, St. Louis, for driving when he was home.

Mr Brady, vettes get double takes all day long. Not by everyone but ALOT of ppl will look at you twice, many more looks than my S gets. Damn I can not wait to get a vette. Sorry for rambling get the car that you like most, not any of us on here. Keep in mind when asking this question you are on a S2000 forum, your results will most likely be biast(sp??) IMO.

Also I would like to input on handling, may not be as agile as a S2000 but it will most likely have more handling capabilities than the average driver can use. Best of Luck with your decision!!

Doug, I think Vette has better/safer handling capabilities. It slides more predictable and has the electronic "anti-guard rail" controls.

I really like the S, but am a bit torn by an opportunity to get a nice C5 for what will be an even buy/sell.

personally i wouldnt get anything older than an 01 c5 because thats the year they changed the rod bolts for the motor to much stronger ones and they updated the intake manifold to the ls6 one(intake manifold in the c5 z06)..keep the s and turbo it

Although I am not a fan of traction control its almost needed in the Vette. I say go for it, but like I mentioned earlier you need to decide which is better for you. You get a bit more space. Possibly a targa top, if equipped, which IMO is much better than a convertible. We need to stop this or I may go buy a vette.

It is a targa top. CAI, and shift kit, new tires and new brakes.

Being your friend's 'Vette, how much have you been able to drive it? My Mom drives a '00 C5, which I've driven a handful of times. It sounds great, and highway passing is a real kick, but that's about all I enjoy. Otherwise I feel kinda isolated from the road, plus it just feels like too large of a car for me. I'm always happy to get back into the S after driving the 'Vette. Just take that as personal opinion, as I generally believe in the philosophy that a car's fun-to-drive factor increases as its size/weight decreases. Though if I drove a 'Vette every day, I would probably grow accustomed to the handling.

They're both great sports cars. Obviously no one here can really tell you which is the better car to have but you. Opinions aside, they are quite similar on paper, (storage space, insurance costs, likelihood of theft). Unsure about maintenance costs, if your friend's car has the run-flats, those are very expensive.

How long have you had the S? Do you think you're just ready for something new?
