Post 02 and 06

I have always been a huge s2k enthusiast ever since it came out in 1999 and official 00 in US; however, due to my age (meaning money) I was not able to afford one nor did I want to at the time. I wanted to learn cars more and what nots...
Drive an integra instead (most practical and sporty FWD car in my eyes).

Next for RWD is obviously... an s2k (some say the legendary AE86 and F1 feel)

I been wanting an 02 as my target year; however.. the new 05+ s2k really took shine as on me as well in luxery, daily saftey and comfort upgrades over the years.

I know the 02+ model has more force even though it is still speced at the markey 250hp; however, receny 05-06 models are speced at 23xhp.

My questions is... the tq obviously has been upped for daily, lowering the rpm and bigger CC of coz... however, what is the actual whp on these new s2k? I ask this because of the fact that the 00/01 comapred to 02+ the 02 had more 'actual whp' but with the new ones... how are they in terms of whp and actual crank hp.

As far as 0-60 times... i would think they are almost similar, I am more concerned on the new engine spec as if it was performed for Road race or AutoX course... I know its been refined for more luxery/daily.

Please inform

Thanks

06 has the same hp and torque as 05, the 06 hp is spec'd at 237 instead of 240 b/c the SAE teast prosedure now requires that engine accessories are active. There is no hp loss for the cars we drive.

They all put out similiar numbers. The AP1's (2000-2003) put out around 190-200 WHP on average and the AP2's (2004-2006) put out around 210 WHP on average.

Both still run similiar times.

0-60 goes to the AP1s. Thanks to the gearing+9k.

I like the exterior of the AP2 better, but I like the 9K red line, interior differences, and engine bay differences of the AP1.

Ah so not much difference as far as gain but no loss. I am glad...
I would have to go with the AP2 in terms of luxery and street then...
As long as the F1 and sport assets still truly lie.

But yes... with more F1 feel, the AP1 00-03 def. would be my hit since the 9k redline!!!

Well hopefully I will be able to get one with the next 2 years.
First things first... house next then can I be ready for a s2k... meanwhile... the Integra will still be by herself.

don't forget the 02 will run you 20K and the 06 32K.

if given the choice, I'd probably go AP2...if they costed the same.

I picked the AP1 because of its 9k redline.

Not sure what figures you are looking at which led you to this conclusion about the '01/'02. There was an ECU change going into '02, but I a pretty certain that it didn't result in more "actual whp". Some people claim that the '02 models will dyno a little better then previous models, but I have not seen actuals numbers to compare. The major changes in '02 were cosmetic.

I do not believe that the newer S2000's are subject to anymore drivetrain loss compared to any of the previous MY's. Also, to reaffirm what Yflyer said, do not be misled by the misleading 237hp number for the '06. That number is a result of new SAE calculating standards. The F22 is still as powerful as the '04 and '05.

As for your racing question, I think you will find a good mix of members here who happily track both engines in both situations (Auto-X and Road). It really is more of a personal preference. I think if either engine had an advantage you would know about it from posts on here.

My advice, by the newest/lowest mileage model you can afford. If you want F20 go with an '02 or '03 and if you want an F22 then get whichever year you can afford. Whatever you end up with you won't be disappointed (unless you're looking for a drag monster )

Cheers,

Craig

Hey Thanks for your input guys.
Yea as far as handling, I believe in Honda still up holding their reputation. The only handling thing I got grasped on were the 04+ years due to the redefinded setup (prevent the well known and easy oversteer for early models).

Yea I guess personal preference is the iniviteble but its just mainly cosmetics and interior luxery. I would be using it more for street, and spirited driving. I am not as much into autoX as I use to be and even so, I think both AP1 and AP2 do fine in AutoX. I do love to do a lot of spirited driving on twisties (hills and mountains).

Well I guess its up to the wallet really... and what I may be able to get as far as color!
