Default 02 S2000 1st Time

I just got my S about two weeks ago. I am about to hit 22,500 miles on my 02. I just picked up the OEM Honda Oil Filter. It has an STP on it now. I am looking to do my first Oil Change on my S. The previous owner has used regular oil. I have always used Mobil 1 Synthetic on my cars, mostly because my last car was a boosted civic. I am thinking I want to continue using Honda Oil Filters and Mobil 1 on the S2000. I have read threads about what oil etc people like so please don't tell me to just search because I have searched a lot. I was curious to if I switch now to Mobil 1 would any problems arise with doing so? How have you S owners that use Mobil 1 like the oil in the F20C?

I'm also not sure the last time the tranny fluid and diff fluid was changed. So I am going to go ahead and change those out as well. After reading all the threads I guess I will go with the Honda MTF. My tranny feels a bit stiff IMO but I'm not sure exactly how the S2k tranny is suppose to feel.

Also I am not sure if it's just me getting use to a new car or what. It seems sometimes the tranny is stiff going into a gear, and others it's smooth. From what I have read maybe it is from a cold tranny until everything warms up? Sometimes it's hard to get a smooth shift when I let the clutch out. I'm thinking it may be just me, because I've never had a car with no exhaust or open downpipe and it's hard getting use to not being able to hear the motor much.

Any help would be great. Again I searched but just kinda want some direct advice. Thanks S2KI

I purchased my S2000 with about the same amount of miles on the ODO. I don't know the service history before I owned my car, but the first thing I did was put Mobil 1 in the car. I now have about 41,000 on the car and change the oil every 3000 miles and haven't had a problem with Mobil 1. In my opinion it wouldn't be too bad of an idea to go to Mobil.

My trans is always stiff when it is cold. After some driving it warms up and seems just fine. I have changed the fluid in the trans and it didn't seem to make a difference in how it stifted (I used Honda MTF). As far as the diff goes, I use Mobil 75w-90.

You have no exhaust??!?! Get one! If you're NA, you're losing a LOT of midrange torque... I couldn't believe the difference when I put my exhaust back on after being in for repair. Felt like a completely different car down low.

As for Mobil 1, I've used it for 20,000+ miles now, ever since I've had the car. Usually it eats a quart between oil changes. I'm not sure if the F20C would eat regular dino oil though. And yes, it would be perfectly fine to switch to Synthetic now! (Rule is that you can after 10,000 miles of driving a new S2K with regular oil)

For the Tranny I use Redline MTF (although I will try GM Synchromesh next) -- and I use LE607 for the differential fluid. Both work great for me. (both are available in the S2K marketplace)

Hope this helps

Thank you for the info. I will go ahead and use Mobil 1 for my first oil change. I ran open downpipe on my b16 civic turbo, right off the turbo. The S has the stock exhaust. I'm looking for an HKS though soon. No way I'd run no exhaust on NA lol.

Anyone notice difference with Honda MTF, Syncromesh, and Redline?

What information are you looking for here that you did not get in the searched threads?

switch to synth.. mobil 1 is good. Use honda filters.. PCX-004 is the end of the part# you want. swap tranny fluid with Honda MTF. I use GM synchromesh friction modified and I noticed a *slight* increase in smoothness but I plan to go back to MTF next time since its less expensive and the dealer is closer

OEM filter# is:15400 PCX 004.
Any good Syn oil is O.K.;I like Castrol Syntec.
Change your diff and tranny fluids;I lke Redline MT-90 for the tranny,(2quarts),and R.L.75W90 gear oil for the diff(1 quart).
And drive safe.!!!
