14.6 miles is nothing to worry about and I would jump at a S2000 for only $800 over invoice. MSRP in my area is considered a good deal. Surprising many dealers in my area are still selling at a markup.

Did you do a trade-in? I'm guessing that you must have gotten low-balled on the trade-in if you actually went under invoice.

I wouldn't sweat the 14 miles on the clock. That is a reqasonable amount, and even if it were vtec'd, it would only be fopr a brief period. Good luck and keep us posted. I'm all for saving money, but remember ever day you delay purchase it's a day you don't get to drive the sweet mobile...

I'm a bit in the same boat. My thoughts...

I agree in general. The car is in its 4th MY. Those who had to have one, have it already. It isn't in demand in the NE anymore. I agree that the "latest, bright and shiny" syndrome is passing it by in favor of Minis, 350Z's, Z4's. Next may be the RX8? Still, Edmunds bogus "TLV" has it above list. Certainly dealers will try to convince you this is so. And even here, in this most educated forum, there are plenty who think MSRP is still a deal. Well, if regional buyers exceed supply, or are unwilling to haggle, that may be the case.

If you haven't already, check the thread:

Last price on a new '03 was $29,500, which is under the reported "invoice"!

Reported invoice is $29325+460=$29,875. Holdback is 3% as stated, so a "dealer cost" (which most probably isn't) is the above minus $978 or $28,807. Whatever the definition of invoice is, bottom line is the bottom line. If you can get it for $29,500, or even $30K (which another reported buying for) that's a deal.

The big difference on the '02's may in part to be due to an unadvertised incentive on previous MY cars. Don't know if one exists on the S2000, but it isn't abnormal for one to be offered. Still the above '03 price argues that new ones can be had for similar.

If $800 means a lot to you, sure hold on. If you can enjoy the car now, weigh that against the wait and extra work to find the price (but maybe only a plane ride to Chicago away?).

I too wouldn't worry about the 14.6 mi. Even if VTEC'd, I suspect (no data) that we worry a bit too much about this. Still, if it makes you worry, then that alone will wear on you.

Try to deal directly with a fleet/internet/whatever manager. You know the car. Salesman is just someone in your way who will want some of the cut. IMHO, of course.

Good luck on your decision!

Check with Rick Case Honda in Cleveland, OH- If you don't mind the drive. I have an '03 waiting there for me to pick up right now. James Reinart(sp) is their internet sales guy, and has been a pleasure to work with. He mistakenly quoted me an '02 Sebring Silver when I asked about an '03 Silverstone. He corrected the quote and bumped it $200 for the '03 model. The deal I'm getting is several hundred over invoice (not sticker), but he is throwing in 5yr/100k extended warranty and 5yr roadside assistance for free. I also took advantage of the 3.99 financing that was available through 12/1.

Oh, and he threw in an S-2000 hat (when he bumped the price).

He's trying to sell 30 cars this month. I think that I was number five. If you give him a call, tell him the guy from Raleigh that bought the Silverstone sent you.

"Sheister" -Great name!. There is a reason dealerships are letting you walk, because it ain't going to happen! There is no reason to accept the offer- the car is worth more than that, and there are people who are willing to pay what the car is worth. ( by no means do I support out right price gouging folks!)

As far as holdback is concerned- that money belongs to the dealer principle, they foot the bill for the store, inventory, etc. (They paid for the place- it belongs to them.)

As far as the other cars that have come, or coming on the market?( 350z vert, z4, etc.) They too are vehicles in high demand, which you'll run into the same problem- The demand outweighs the supply.

The S2000 even @ Honda's moroney label($33,060) is still a good value. Honda did a very good job @ keeping the price in check when they put this vehicle on the market and the same remains today. Keep in mind dealers on average get 2 S2000's per month, that's only 24 per year!

Keep in mind that several fellow members bought leftover MY01 earlier this year (Jan. - Feb.) for $28,000 in Boston.

You will likely find the best prices during those months.

Good luck and let us know your best deal.

Can you give us an exact figure? And is there a trade-in involved?
thanx...

$30,500 + 50 doc fee + $20 temporary tag = $30,570 Out The Door (and on the trailer). No tax since it will be registered in NC.

That figure includes the 5/100 extended warranty and 5 yr roadside assistance.

North Carolina does not charge sales tax on vehicles, but they do have a 3% "Road Use" tax on vehicle purchases. When I register it here it will be $920 in tax and another $20 for a tag.

Which brings my total to $31,510.

No trade involved. I'm keeping my Dodge Ram. In fact, I'm taking it up to Cleveland on Friday to trailer my new baby back, if the weather will cooperate!

This is total crap. Sure there are people willing to pay sticker but they are the ones perpetuating the price level. Invoice to $300 over can easily be had if you are patient.
