Default 04-05 Underrated?

When purchasing my S2000 last week, the dealer told me that the 04-06's were underrated by Honda to keep them in the same class of car. I am aware of the enigine size upgrade from 2.0 to 2.2 but always thought that the only gains were in torque figures and a wider power band. Can anyone confirm this or was this guy just pulling my leg. Either way, that had no influence on me purchasing this specimen of a car, but it would be nice to know that 230 to the wheels is sitting under the hood.

It wasn't underrated to keep them in the same class of car. That dealership is a moron.

that said, yes they dyno about 10 peak whp higher than the 00-03. (however dont let that go to your head, as they are NOT any faster than the 00-03. they are both the same. there are other changes that negate the 10whp)

moving to S2000talk

Incorrect information coming from a car dealer, say it isn't so Joe.

Not true. Get caught in the wrong gear and they are. Around town and accelerating out of the hole out of VTEC, they are. Top gear passing, they are. I raced an '03 from 3k RPM, both in 4th gear, just for $hits and giggles and I pulled over a car length by the time I was shifting to 5th. There is a difference. Maybe not from a 5k clutch drop and in VTEC for the entire race.

As much as I'd like to believe you or anyone else drives their S2000's around between 6000 and 9000 (or 8000) RPM all day long, the fact is, most people don't. At identical RPM between idle until into VTEC, the AP2 accelerates quicker. Noone is talking about why one person buys one car over another.

What? You mean you AP2 guys DON'T?

Yes yes, for daily driving and "around town," the AP2 is quicker than the AP1. But then again, so is a V6 Camry...
