06 has oil life meter!

Default 06 has oil life meter!

I never saw this when there were all these posts comparing 05/06 cars... My freind cruised by last night showing it off. Crazy! anyone know how these work, and how accurate they are?

close your eyes. imagine a little digital readout that says OIL LIFE 70%. not a very worthy picture IMHO. You hit the trip button and it cycles thru: trip A -->trip B --> oil life -->trip A..

sounds like... you set the number of miles between changes and the 'oil meter' calculates the percentage of miles traveled since your setting was reset...

totally useless.

actually it calculates oil life depending on rpm, temp, mileage, etc. if you drive it harder it will take that into consideration and tell you to change it sooner.

i read an article that many new cars, especially high end cars, have this oil life sensor (its not just an equation!). I didnt know it made its way to an s2000 though.

The oil life indicator displays a percentage oil life "Based on the engine operating conditions and accumulated engine revolutions..." That's out of the owner's manual. I'm not exactly sure what "engine operating conditions" means or how the computer monitors them.
