Hey guys, my new 2001 s2000 has grinded 3 times (there's 2200 miles on the odometer) and I'm getting worried. Its super infrequent, but my fear is that this may get worse! I really am hoping not but I was wondering, those who had the 1-2 grind, is this how it started? I haven't been tough on the car, I let it break in before I vtec'd and have followed all your guys' advice to the T. Does the recall affect my 2001 cars as well?

That is the way mine started. It only happened now and then but happened more often as the miles built. I have not heard of the problem on any 2001 but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Mr Saini has mentioned that he sometimes grinds 2nd because he is lazy with his left foot. Maybe he's just quicker with his right hand than he is with his left foot? Are you sure you're getting the clutch all the way down? If you do have the grind I wouldn't worry too much because Honda will take care of you.

hmmm...
same thing seems to be happening with me (another 2001 model year). never happened before, happened once around 1500 miles and twice since 2000.
not being lazy with the left foot - and my right hand's not too swift (grin).

My 2001 does it sometimes as well but it has happened enough to tell if it's me screwing up or the 1-2 grind. Only happens from 1st going to 2nd though which would lead me to believe the 1-2 grind. Although, I have about 6,500 miles on the S (most of them in VTEC) and it's only done the grind a half a dozen times or so.

I too have grinded several times from 1-2. Im still in the process of determining whether it is me or the car. It isn't frequent enough to test easily however and it only happens when I wind it out past 8K or so in first. In the past, when i've decided to try and figure it out, it always shifts fine. I've grinded several times during autocrossing but that is in a competition situation and I believe my hand is faster than my foot. I'll keep you posted.

I have driven hundreds of cars and never had a problem with grinding gears or saw a need to practice. But that is the crappy statement made too often by some that are lucky enough to have a defect free transmission. Please face the fact that there is a problem (Honda has) and stop giving other owners shit!

Jay, I didn't grind 2-3 but I did have a problem with 3rd gear before the grind fix. No problems at all since.

If you have a problem with an '01 it is a new problem. The "fix" was incorporated on all '01's from the factory.....most likely pilot error........
