i dont have 4.77s yet i was just trying to see if i could deal with the higher rpms on highway driving. they say that 5th gear is almost exactly the same as 6th gear will be with 4.77's so thats what i was trying.

i liked what i saw. i think i could handle it. like xviper said i would want to get the oil bolts just for precautionary measures. also keep plenty of oil in your car, mine still is burning about a quart every 1500 miles, your engine will be turning at a much higher rate.

but seeing as how you are getting them installed right now ill let you tell us what you think of them. and hopefully you can get your car to the 1/4 mile track to see what you can do.

its the 4.77 by the way not the 3.77

you said 3.77 in your earlier posts but no one corrected you cause everyone thought it was a typo.................

p.s. i drive alot of highway miles. i am from just west of rochester and i now live in ithaca which is a 100 mile trip each way, which i drive once or twice a month. for this reason i though 4.77's would be too much. but for me, i think it would be ok.

however, my last car was a 88 mustang that i use to drag race with. that car had 3.73's. so i might be just used to driving at higher rpms on highways. ? no typo here they were really 3.73's

I recall with the Mustang, that stock gearing was around the low end of 3.xx. So, 3.73's would be a significant multiplication and would be "like" going to 4.44's in the S. 4.11's in a Mustang would be like going to 4.77's in an S. I'm talking in terms of "feel" for hiway running and such.

Just found this thread.

I have had the 4.77 installed for 2 months. First let me say that they are amazing. It is very easy to get going and the acceleration is great. At 90 I am at 6000 rpm's or so, so on the highway in sixth it could be a bit much for some people.

I have never run the quarter mile. However, I have done a few autoX's and the gear swap has helped. I do have to shift up a gear when my fellow s2000's can stay in first or second.

I have noticed a decrease in gas mileage. I used to get between 18-20 mpg and now I get 16-18 mpg. Granted I tend to drive in vtec most of the time so I expected the loss.

I would only recommend this to someone who drives the car like it should be driven. The only people who would love this mod would be the true enthusiast as it is very wearing on long drives. Between the PRM, Invidia , 4.77, and doing 22,000 miles a year you have to really love your car.

rateds2k, do you get an annoying drone at cruising speeds with your combination?
Was it night and day compared to your S when it was stock?

Jimbo....I put sound insulation in the back wall between the trunk and the cabin....cuts out lots of exhaust and rear road noise. Lots of difference with the top up

fltsfshr...

and the only thing I don't like about my 444's is their high speed (90moh+) long term cruising comfort....
