I'm just about committed to rebuilding the head, w/ SS light weight valves, Ti seats, stronger springs, and Toda Cams. This should be under $2000 and even w/ Spoon's Ti valves it ought to be not much more than $2500, if that much. Result ought to be a head (only) that could run at 12k rpm all day. Obviously, the bottom end would have to be built too if that high an rpm would be used often or for a substantial period of time.

Thanks to Hams2000 for putting me on to Import Builders and for a ton of data he gave me.

STILL - what the hell do you do about the fuel cutoff at 8900 or whatever it is? I don't think that a VAFC would handle that. I know that the AEM PEMS would, but would hate to get into that can of worms. So - any alternatives out there?

honda used to have some motorcycles (i'm pretty sure they were 2-stroke) that revved to 21,000(!)rpm...

Increasing the redline by 2000 RPM is NOT just about valve springs and cams. Go ahead and do it, total waste of money.

You would require a new intake manifold, injectors, intake(s), and a new head capable of moving almost 23% more air and fuel into the combustion chamber as well. The bottom end could probably handle it but you'd have to redesign the top from scratch.

Did I mention oil circulation and the headers/exhaust?

Get real people, 11K RPM is to 9K what 9K is to 7.3K

I was gonna say that cthree.

I get nervous letting the car rev to 9000 rpm. I would go insane if it went to 11k.

Stress on an engine at 9000 rpm = the twice the stress at 8000 rpm. Honda engineer said it.

The engine is made to handle the 9k at ease....you should not be nervous hitting the red line.

I wonder how many of those people post results of those kind of mods on S2ki?

....NONE

Continuous shifting below 4K has been known to result in causing hesitations under normal low RPM driving (sometimes bad and can happen anytime ie:engine loads up over time).

With valve spring mods I wouldn't be suprised if the top end could handle 11,000 RPM. However, I would expect the bottom end to need a shorter stroke to keep the piston speeds down.

It was a four stroke.
