17 wheel inch offsets
Hey guys,
I need to understand a couple of things on this subject:
1. Weight, all four would be about 30# heavier than OEM, is this really significant as far as effecting every day driving?
2. Too narrow, I suppose this limits the size of tires you want to use which creates the clearance prob (RT) even though the offset are good?
3. If one can live with the above then what size and brand of tires would you recommend? for cool weather, sometimes wet conditions.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
30# is a lot, but depending on what you do with the car might not make a difference to you.
The offsets are directly tied to widths, you change one and not the other and you'll run into clearance problems. So to answer the original question, those offsets are perfect for those widths for the S2000. In addition, with those widths you are going to want to run the 225/45-17's and the 245/40-17's. (If they made them in 17x8.5's with a +58 offset, the outside lip would be in the same place as the 17x8's +52 and you could run 255/40-17's with no clearance problems).
Tires are a whole nother can of worms. I've got my favorites but haven't tried them in these specific sizes on this specific car so............. I don't know.

RT, thanks for your reply.
I intend to use the 17" set for driving when temperatures are around the freezing point and there are some patches of ice on the mountian roads. So, no high speed driving for long periods. I need to select the tires for that application. As discussed and also experienced by yours truly, the OEM tires becomes almost useless in these conditions, and I would not think that the extra 30# weight of the ROH wheels will make much diff, perhaps better grip, or am I wrong?
For the summer I will be using the OEM. It seems Honda had high preformance summer driving in mind for the stook. For us that means 5 months of the year (if we are lucky), 3 months in the garage, so we are looking at 4 months driving with the 17" set of wheels and tires.
Cheers,
Mike
