I took my 1986 911 Cab with 18,000 original miles out of the garage this week. After driving the Stook, the 911 felt like a Mack truck. I love the 911 but the shifting and handling of the S2K is far superior. I simply could not get use to driving the 911 after driving the S2k! On the plus side the 911 is much more comfortable, and at the risk of receiving a ton of posts, it also feels quicker. The S2K is by far the best sports car value on the market today!

Interesting! Before my dad got his Boxster S, he had an '86 911 Targa (red/tan.) About 140k miles when he traded it in. I had auto-xed/driven it on many occasions - man, if yall think the stook is tail happy, you should try one of these earlier 911s! Of course, in the hands of a competent driver, the Porsche can be made to go around a track extremely well... Anyway, to me they both felt equally quick. I never got a chance to directly compare them, but to my memory there wasn't a whole lot of difference in how long each takes to get to 120. (The Porsche had a few mods, though. Stock hp was... 212?) The 911 actually felt a bit lighter. In fact, while it was noticably less tight that the S2000, especially with the top off, it didn't make much difference because it was so light up front. The 911 totally looses out on transmission and clutch. Ugh, that thing could be a pain to drive. IIRC, in '84 Porsche upgraded the engine but the old synchros couldn't handle the additional power. A new transmission came along in '87 to fix the problem.

In any case, both fun, exciting cars.

The first 911 I ever drove was a a '72 911S. Talk about your oversteer! The stook handles like it's on rails compared to that Porsche.

Thanks for the post.

I was on the verge of buying a pristine, low mileage, '89 911 Cab when, at the last moment, someone bought it out from under my nose.

Three days later, I bought the S2000.

I've never regretted it and never looked back!
