1999 s2000 over 100k miles safe buy
hi,
I have dreamed of owning an s2000 since i was a 19 year old ( over 10 years now haha )
anyway a 1999 red s2000 showed up locally at a bargain price of 5250 incl hardtop
problem is it has 109k miles, It has full honda service history but surely ball joints cam belts wishbones etc will need to have been replaced?
I would really appreciate any advice on buying my first s2000 with such high mileage?
I am going to view on thursday, what do i ask? what do i look for?
thanks in advance everyone
also are they useless in the scottish winter? are they really that dangerous

It all depends who was driving it. If it has the entire history, is it a 1-owner car? Honda built the S for fun, but they also built it to last. It is a Honda first and foremost after all.

Just like emac stated, all depends on how the veh was used.
There is a member on the boards with 260k and looks great. You should def have someone check out the veh, fluids, suspension, etc.
i recently sold my s2k with 95k and still ran great.
its really up to you if you want to take that risk.

Personally if the car was at ever semi clean i would jump on that deal !! If it has all maintanance records i would think it would be fine. My my03 now has over 96000 and the only thing that has ever gone wrong is my passenger side cv axle is starting to click alittle. Im still on my original clutch. All ball joints and suspension components are still perfect. These are really exceptionally well built cars. Their are alot of good and helpfull resources on this forum. that will let you know all the things to look out for when searching for a good used s2k. however ill try to list some common and notorious problems with the s. first gen s2k's (ap1) are known for burning some oil. Alot of people report even more oil consumption when using mobil 1. so check your oil frequently. The timing chain auto tensioner has been known to fail so if you start your car and it ever sounds like a card in the spokes of a bicycle stop driving it and have the tensioner replaced. The banjo bolts in the oil squirters in 00 through mid 02 cars should be replaced with the revised versions. This was done to stop the dreaded #4 cylinder score although honda never admitted to it. Be prepaired to replace your rear tires pretty frequently. there are probably some other little things but hopefully this should help you some. and all in all the s2000 is a great car and is extremly fun to drive and you wont regret your purchase. 9000 rpms is nothing but fun

I bought mine with 110,000k and it's still driving like new man.. I would just test drive it.. Ask owner about anything that looks or sounds iffy and go for it.. I have had two and loved them both
