Default 1QT 700 miles

First of i have a MY03 with 83,XXX miles and i run Mobile-1 10w-30

I have burnt a whole QT of oil in 700 miles with a moderate amount of vtec'ing
nothing out of the ordinary.....

i was told to replace my pcv valve that should take care of most of the oil consumption is that true?

,thanks

thats not good. replacing the pcv valve would help. krank vents solve the oil burining/consumption problem completely

Change oil brands and get the new PCV valve. I would recommend krank vents last if the first two options don't considerably reduce and/or stop the consumption.

If you're a 3000 mile oil changer then you don't need to use synthetic (if you do you're wasting it). If you like to wait longer between intervals then any brand name synthetic will do, try Pennzoil Platinum or even a regular dino oil and see if consumption is reduced.

^ Not a big fan of Pennzoil Platinum. I've used Mobil 1, Valvoline Synpower, Pennzoil Platinum, and Royal Purple. Here's how I would rank them:
1. Royal Purple
2. Valvoline Synpower
3. Mobil 1 Synthetic
4. Pennzoil Platinum

I burned oil like crazy with Mobil1 with my S2000 and ITR. Try switching to Amsoil, RP or Castrol. I will not use Mobil1 again. Even rumors of it not being a true synthetic (but lets not get into that discussion here).

Try those other brands and see what happens.

I burn quite a bit of Mobil1 in my 86,000km 2001 also - somewhere around the 3L / 5000km mark. On castrol dino oil, it's more like 1.5L / 5000km.

Besides the warm fuzzy feeling that you got from your #1 rated purple oil what concrete data do you have to back any of that up? Oil isn't about thinking you know what is better, it is about taking factual data and seeing if it applies to a particular engine or operating condition.

Pennzoil Platinum will rival Mobil1 in every category, UOAs with PP trend less iron over the same milage interval compared to M1, and Pennzoil Platinum is just as available as Mobil1. Pennzoil Platinum is, in almost all respects, equal or superior to M1.

Come packing some proof and maybe I'll put some faith in your comments. I seem to remember you posting some crazy claim about engine oil in the past...
