Default 1st oil change?

When should I do this? What oil should I use from now on? Is "taking it to the dealer" ok (ie will they use better oil)? Thanks - Mike

The user's manual covers when to change the oil ~7.5K and if you want to switch to synthetic you MUST wait till after 10K. As far as dealer oil, they just use the same oil for your car as they would an Civic as long as it's the same weight.

Between now and 7500 miles check your oil levels to make you're losing oil and replace with Castrol GTX 10-30 to bring it back up.

If you did a search you can find threads like this

I think it's been 20 years+ since mixing brands of oil caused any problems, so I don't know that the following matters. I agree with everything in jtpassat's posting except that I top up my factory fill with Mobil Drive Clean, since that is presumably what Honda Oil actually is.

I have heard from several owners that at between 10,000 and 12,000 miles the engine actually breaks in, with noticable results. Some people think you should wait for that to happen before you switch to synthetic.

According to the manual, you should change the oil at 3,750 miles for "severe" conditions or 7,500 for "normal" conditions.

I just got my first oil change done two days ago (3015 miles). I stood in the shop and watched them do it the whole time. I was laughing when the guy called me over and asked me how to start the car.

If you decide to change your oil yourself you might want to consider installing a Fumoto Oil Valve.

With this in place you can change the oil from above without raising the car.

More info at www.fumotovalve.com

I have the one with the nipple so I can attach a tube. You can get it with or without the nipple. You must get the adaptor. Do not overtighten when installing.
