Machone,

I'm gald to hear it. I know his style and his level of work. Do you mind telling me how much you paid and what you got for it?

Oh, and I would love to see the work he did. Maybe next time there is a cruise or a meet in the Bay Area I'll see you there.

Redleader,

My charge was right around $2000.00, but Ernie told me that if he did it again he'd probably have to charge more...apparantly it took longer than he estimated.

I have the MBQuart Q series with dual channel Precision Power amp in trunk. The crossover is under the driver's seat. No subwoofer and it sounds fine to me.

Hey MachOne,

Actually, I spoke to Ernie today at Sound Innovations based on your previous post. He seemed very knowledable and gave some great advice. Although my S2K won't be delivered until April (silver/red on order), I am already doing some research on how I want to upgrade my system. Unfortunately, I am basically a novice at this. However, my intention is to only upgrade the speakers, add an amp, and possibly tweeters. I live down the road from you in Pleasanton and would love to hear your system and get your feedback of you wouldn't mind. Let me know.

Thanks

machone,

$2000 sounds like a lot of dough for separates and an amp. I guess a lot of the cost went towards the labor (especially if he custom mounted tweeters).

Do the MBquarts offer enough bass though? or do you feel a sub would help?

you might want to talk to aaron wong at custom car alarms in san francisco. they've done around a half dozen s2k stereo upgrades already and quoted me around 1/2 what you were quoted (MB Quarts, etc). every time i've been by there my s2k would be one of the cheaper cars there.

Probably want to make sure your comparing apples with apples. There are 3 different models of MB Quarts...Q, Referenz Premium and Autobahn. I have the Q. I also got an estimate from a place in Dublin...it was not that much different...perhaps $1850 or so. I also got the top of the line model of PrecisionPower amp.

As far as bass, the system is fine for me. Granted, I don't listen to heavy rap or the like, so if you are into that kind of sound you might want a separate woofer. As far me, my tastes go from classical to musical theatre to rock. No really super hard rock or metal stuff though. Seriously though, it does produce a good deal of bass as is.

What kind of material or aftermarket product do you use to protect (replace the speaker basket)bigger than OEM Speakers? How deep can you go when choosing them?
