Obviously 2 speakers in a 32k+ car is pretty pathetic, even if its a racer, but audio problems are usually easily remedied. But the problem is, where in the world are you going to put extra speakers in that car? There's hardly anyroom left. Obvioudly the front speakers can be replaced and tweeters can be custom mounted in the door, but what about rear speakers. Anyone know or have experience with custom installs for rear speakers (or better yet, have pics)??

some data:
https://www.s2ki.com/sound/Stereopage.php

some folks have pictures of installs that are pretty sweet that have been posted.

when i talked to a good installer here (who has done half a dozen S2K installs to date) he said the car sucks to install stereos in. his solution is to use MB Quart components in the door and a small sub box in the trunk behind the driver's seat. says it's not optimal, but it's better than stock.

Hello redleader,
I long contemplated the same issue. After tearing off just about every interior trim piece, decided there just wasn't room for anything back there, at least without cutting metal.
My solution was a set of Focal 165W's and a heavy dose of door solidification. Powered by a quality amp, with all new wiring. Quality over quantity, you might say. The stock stereo sucks, but I'd be stoked that this car has some excellent space in the doors. I'd make the most of that, and re-evaluate then. You might be (pleasantly) surprised.

Happy jammin'!

Jason

Did the thought not occur to you that the S2K was designed as a top down sports car w/a light but efficient engine. This necessitated a light but efficient car to encompass the engine. Thus the no frills interior. The lack of gadgets, rear speakers etc. is by design and not a cost issue. This means, as others have stated, it is hard to retrofit parts that violate the design principle of the car. I seriously question the wisdom of people who invest a lot of money to counter the very design of the car; the very design that should have been A big factor in their reason for purchasing the car.

That said, it's your car, plug every orifice with speakers if that's what makes you happy. I'd seriously consider taking the car to a professional car audio shop and use their expertise to formulate a plan of attack.

A good set of front separates and a sub in back powered by a nice heafty amp should suffice 99% of people. Actually its overkill for most.

Malachi:

What stereo shop have you been to in SF, CA that's done S2k installs? I've been to two that don't have any experience, and I want to take my car to a place that's done S2k installs.

Thanks

Yay Silver, my thoughts precisely. I still can't understand why some owners get off on turning what is a high class automobile into the equivalent of a whore by tarting it up in what amounts to bright red lipstick, cheap earrings and a skirt hitched way too high.

I think Honda has a lot more taste than most of us and had a vision for what it wanted the vehicle to be - a vision which is pure and should not be adulterated.

I agree.....it's a sports car, and designed to be so. I've driven a couple Z3's and trust me, their stock sound systems are alot worse....and that's for a car costing more.

So, I really don't think it's that pathetic.
