200 miles on a new car at the showroom
I was looking at a 2008 in a color I liked, at a decent or maybe great price, but saw that the odometer had well over 200 miles on it. It's more convenient to buy from this dealership, and the price may be better than I'll find elsewhere, but it bothers me that there are well over 200 miles on the car.
The car actually felt smoother to drive than others I've tried with fewer miles.
Why would a new car at the dealer's have 200 miles? Maybe it was driven from another dealership, but the sticker shows that dealership's name and location. I'm not thrilled that other people have been "breaking it in" who knows how. However, I realize that even when you get a car with 50 miles people often have been test driving it and possibly redlining it well before the 600 mile recommended mileage to drive the car.
Would this keep you from buying the car?

I think the fact that it's new would keep me from buying the car. Used cars = less depreciation, haha.
Did you ask them why it's already got 200 miles? My roommate's Mazda 3 was transported from another dealership, so she didn't get to put on the first 150 or so miles herself. I'd think part of the appeal of a new car is driving it off the lot with <5 miles on it.

exactly the reason why i traveled far to get my car. i drove off the dealer with 15 miles. if i had gotten it closer to where i lived theyd have to drive it. i wanted to be the one to "break in" the car. i personally have NEVER seen a car on a lot with more than 50 miles. i think its just crazy. but thats just me.
and i do know someone that used to work for a honda dealer that picked up an s2 from wisconson and drove it to chicago and BEAT THE LIVING HELL out of it on the way home. so you cant always count on someone else driving your car.

I got my 07 with 200 something miles on it already..."new"... Reason why was because it was the color/year I was after and there were none around my area. Although I don't really like the idea that it was driven before me, I'm not stressin too much about it.
So far, it's been running damn good and hasn't burnt oil after the 600 mile break-in and no wierd noises or crazy valvetrain noise. I tried to get the dealership down in price for the miles but it didn't really work out, but I said fuk it, gimme my damn s2000 NOW! lol

Mine had 150 "dealer" miles between two dealerships. It came to my dealership with a big volume new car purchase from another dealership up north in winter, and the my dealer had to take 3 s2ks as part of the deal. With 31K ml so far no problems beside a bad speaker on the driver's side (somebody probably damaged it seeing how loud the radio would go). My starting bargning price was the blue book price for a "used" 05.

If you're worried about it then don't settle.
I would be hesitant on that one. It most probably has been vtec'ed many many times. Break in is 600 miles and no vtec until then. I know Honda employees in my area that joy ride in new S2000's as well as customers' cars every chance they get.
It is your decision, but is it really worth it?

I would not lose a lot of sleep over the 200 miles. If you get up to a couple of thousand miles or more, you might need to worry about some tire wear. Cars are not delivered in hermetically sealed packages. Recently, our local Honda dealer moved his showroom to a new location about 15 miles away. They had to move every single car in their lot up to the new location, and of course they used teams of drivers. Every new car now guaranteed to have 20+ miles or more.
I got my 07 new and it had about 190 miles on it. I've got about 6,000 now with zero problems. I would not stress about it. It is under warranty, the dealer is more convenient, it is the color you like and at a great price that you might not get somewhere else....I would just go and get it.
On a side note, the day I was getting my S, my uncle test drove one in OH (back in January) and the one he drove had close to 5,000 miles. Apparently if the car is not tittled and has less than like 5,000 miles it is still considered new....crazy!
