2000 / 2001 Clutch Differences?
After driving Lips2000's car I started asking the other HouStooks about thier clutches. Joe_S2K, Kibro, Insomniak, and Rudy (not sure if Rudy is on this board) and I started physically comparing our clutches.
When I drove Mark's (Lips2000) car his clutch was incredibly lighter than mine - it was like night and day. His clutch reminded me of my Dad's 1994 Civic that I borrow from time to time when my differential disintigrates (joking). I do have an ACT clutch but that seriously didn't change my clutch interaction by too much.
So, we're standing there with 6 S2000s and we started getting into everyone's car and comparing their clutches. It turned out that the two 2000 year Stooks had strong, tough clutches, but the 2001 Stooks had the lighter clutches. Has anyone else noticed this? We thought surely we would have heard/read about this if it were true.

I'm not really sure. I've always read that if you upgrade your clutch to a racing clutch you might need to "work up your leg muscle" as it's quite stronger. I always thought our cars had decent clutches in them since they had the same characteristics. The clutch is not grinding, or anything. It's smooth - it's just takes 3-4 times as much force to push it down. I've never driven a car that had a clutch as "heavy" as my S2000...it's noticebly different.
Also, the cars had a wide range of miles on them - from 10,000 up to 38,000.

I only got to test drive a 2000 stook before I bought my 2001 and I actually asked the dealer if this was non-stock clutch. I was amazed how much "lighter" the clutch felt when I got my new 2001 in. I really thought the 2000 had a different clutch. Maybe this was not the case...

I've owned both a MY2000 and MY2001 S2K. The clutch in the 2001 does feel much lighter than the 2000. I thought I might have been imagining it, but after reading the previous posts (and the other thread about your S2K Wes, sorry to hear!) it does seem to be different. I figured the different feel was probably due to the MY2001 clutch fix.
I wonder if people who have a MY2000 and have had the TSB done notice a difference? Anyone?

Wes,
This is really interesting. Both Unicron and I have 2000 S2K's BUT my was picked up in late August 2000 with number #8410. Unicron picked up his at least 6 months before.
We have both driven each others cars and one of the first things we noticed was that our clutch pedals feel different. His was a lot harder than mine. My is quite light sort of like all the other hondas. We didn't think it was a big deal.
My theory is that Honda originally came out with a stiffer clutch pedal when the S2K first came out but sometime later (like 1 year), they changed the clutch design. In fact I do not have the 1-2 grind problem like Unicron had.
Actually Unicron just got his car back yesterday from the tranny rattle fix and his clutch is soft like mine now...so this does work with my theory.
