2000 vs 2001 clutch: does one have better gripping power than the other? or is the action on the newer version just lighter and fixes the TSB?

here is the deal on the clutch. I had this same thing happen my clutch was VERY HARD to push in and out very stiff and had constant preasure.. I noticed that other friends cluthes would be stiff about half way then just go to the floor with no resistance. So i said hey guys feel my clutch tell me if you feel a difference. They all said yeah your clutch is great mine feels like a Civic compared to yours.. I asked the Tech (one who knows what he is talking about) My clucth was so Stiff and felt so good cause it was almost worn out (Tech said it was metal to metal) when he took it off. So to answer one question in the post yes your clutch gets stiffer as it wears.. You can get a cable adjusted in your clutch to make it have that constant preasure if you want it. But the 2000's are different thean the 2001

If mine softens after the TSB (which will be done while my car is in the shop this week(s)) I'm going to be very dissapointed...I loved the strong, resistant, clutch.

Wesmaster,

I have a 2000 and also have noticed the differences in clutch pressure in the 2001s. I have driven Rick's '01 and Mavic's '01 and there is a considerable difference in clutch pressures between the years. I can add that my clutch has not changed in the year I have been driving it as my daily driver (27,000 miles now). It has been strong from day one. I also prefer the stronger clutch to the softer feeling '01 MY.

ABSOUTLY!!! When I traded my 2000 in on my 2001 the clutch felt completely different, it is a heck of a lot "softer" feeling. I could hardly drive it. Now that I have put my 2001 into competition, it also feels looser on the track, I find myself mis shifting the 2001 a lot more.

Could this have anything to do with adjustments in the clutch MC?

In an unrelated discussion with Comptech, Shad said that he was aware that the 2001 clutch was different, but that it shouldn't be anything that you could noticably feel. It was a change in part of the material that made up the disk, or something.

So I guess there is no answer to the question of whether it is a better clutch or not.

I have just given up my 1999 S2000 and am awaiting a 2001 in July. I haven't driven an S2000 for 2 months and instead have been knocking around in an Automatic, an old Golf, and a 2000 MX-5. Will I notice the difference when I get my new S2000???

According to my other half I won't as I apparently have 2 left feet!

Wesmaster you have done a fair few miles. I did 17,000 in 18 months and I thought that I was high!
