2000 Corvette or 2002 s2000
I have been given the opportunity to purchase a Vette at the same price I would purchase my S2000 for. Is there anyone out there who has had both and could help sway me one way or the other?
Is the Vette a convertible? If so, it is an automatic as convertible Vette's ony come with the auto tranny, at least this year. The two cars are so very different that you should just drive them and make the decision. Obviously you will get swayed toward the S2000 here just liek you would toward the Vette at a Vette forum.

But seriously, it comes down to personal preference. Both are wonderful cars. Do you like stump-pulling torque or high-revving HP? Do you like nimble handling or tenacious grip? Do you like gold chains and big hair or tiny cell phones and anime?
We can't pretend to know which car is right for you.
Actually a 2000 vette was my backup choice when I got my S2000. I thought to myself with complete resolve to do this that If the dealer so as much as TRIES to ask for more than sticker, I'll walk out, drive down the street and get a silver vette instead. Well that didn't happen and I'm happy with my choice.
reliability is a serious problem with vettes. However MANY more people are more familiar with the car and servicing it. And its aftermarket support/products is at least 1000 times that of what you'd get with the S2000.
Since I'm not a used car buyer, I'd say go for the brand new 2002. You'll love it. Who knows what problems a 2 year old vette at $33000 can give ya.

dsp,
prefect reply! Hilarious, and yet so true!
WEC III,
a friend has a 1999 Corvette Roadster (6-speed), and I own a 2000 S2000. I've driven his Corvette, and it's nice, pretty comfortable, has lots of torque, but I prefer the S2000. It's much more fun to drive, for me. It all comes down to what you like. Try 'em both...

My dad has a 2000 vette 6-speed convertible. I've driven it many times. They are two different animals and offer these practical advantages:
2000 vette
Low end torque: this is THE american muscle car, it pulls and roars like no other in its price range. If you become infatuated with this raw power, a 2.0 VTEC won't help.
s2000
It's a Honda: from a reliability and resale perspective (but case by case on a customer service perspective) the s2000 is superior. Plus you can get your factory bumper to bumper extended to 7yrs 100K miles for $1500.
Handling: although I think the vette is incredibly tight and responsive, the s2000 is a much swifter car (probably because of low curb weight) making it tons of fun to drive, especially on winding roads.
Public Perception: I think the vette still reigns supreme in Michigan and most of the mid west. People in detroit are still impressed by the vette and you may be subject to some scorn (but definitely ignorance) for driving an s2000 in the US motor capital. In other states, this probably doesn't hold. It depends on who you're looking to impress.
