Default 2000 First Gear Redline

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum.

I am going to buy an S2000 and I talked to the owner of a 2000 S2000. He said that the computer cuts off the engine in first gear at like 6000 rpm. Has anyone else heard of this?

He doesnt know what he is talking about Believe me I have taken my car in first all the way to 9 grand. When the engine is cold below three bars on the temp gauge the car will not go past 7000 and vtec will not engage, due to low oil temps and inadiquate oil circulation for 9000 rpms

yeah, if you don't wait 'til it warms up. If you do warm it up to 2 bars of 3 full bars then it goes few thousands more

Phew! That's a relief to hear. I didn't want to pass up on this deal and if it didn't rev past 6k in first gear, there's no way I'd get it.

You guys are a life saver.

If everything goes as planned, I will be joining this forum forever! :-)
I should be getting the car next Thursday. I am soooo excited.

Wow. DANGER DANGER DANGER.

When you get your S, don't get any driving tips from the other owner you talked to.

Why do you say not to get driving tips from the previous owner?

The previous owner is obviously ill informed and doesn't know what he is talking about.

Maybe he's talking about the pregrammed 6K limitation for when the engine is not fully warm. If you just started the car and you try to redline it, then you'll get this horrible sound at 6K.

The engine will not run properly above 6 grand if the VTEC valve does not open. This is because the engine does not have the correct valve timing and lift.

This is why the engine needs to be warmed up.
