Here is the Deal I can get a brand new 2000 silver/red hopefully by next week (been waiting three already). I also could wait (about three months the dealer said) and get a 2001. Sticker price either way. Winter is just around the corner here in NJ, but I really want the S2k asap. However I am a bit concerned about the transmission(grind) problems that have been going on and wonder if perhaps they were corrected for 2001. But then I figure I can always take my Fiance's car to the office when it snows and enjoy the s2k most of the winter.
What should I do?
buy the 2000 next week or wait three months more?

No contest. Take the S now!!
Ordered mine Sept 99. I was expecting to get it in early July this year to take advantage of any price drop as a result of changes to our tax system. Then one became available in March. I umm'd and arr'd for about 30 seconds then took it. Our southern hemisphere winter was quite mild and I really enjoyed it all through winter. Now that it's getting hotter I'm making more pleasure trips and absolutely love it.
Were I you, I wouldn't wait 3 months for a clock. Escpecially when I hear many MY2000 S2000 head units are going to mysteriously fail once the new head unit replaces the old on the parts list

My only concern with the 2000 is whether the gearbox grind problem is fixed or not. Nobody seems to know exactly which 2000 S2K's are affected. At least with the 2001, I think you are guaranteed the "new and improved" tranny... and the clock, don't forget about the clock! Hehehe...

I wouldn't base my decision on the tranny issue. It's covered under warranty if you get one with the problem. Personally I'd get the first one I could get my hands on. It is a limited production car. I was extremely happy when I got mine just because I was able to get one, and I still am .

The old saying "He who hesitates..." is especially true with the S. If you find a new car at MSRP in a color you can live with. Just write the check! These cars will be in even greater demand in '01 I'm sure now that people have seen them. Remember Honda did very little promotion on the S2000. So when it rolled out, it was really only those that followed auto news closely that even knew they existed.
