wow thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate the feedback. My new opinion is find the best value S2000 thats in the best shape possible and has been taken care of.
At the NOPI National Supershow this year a guy driving a red AP2 asked me what MY my car was, and was shocked to learn that it was an MY00, because, as he noted, my car looked much newer. LOL, I doubt he even realized that my car had a plastic rear window. Generally, if it's too cold to put the top down, I drive another car, so the S2000 rear window is a complete non-issue.

Just got a 2001 Silver with 8000 miles on it for 27,000 Canadian. I'm pretty happy about it. It's pretty much a brand new car with that milage. Better condition then any 2002 i've looked at so far so screw the rear window. Getting a hardtop anyways. Thanks guys!

LOL, yea, but it's only a non-issue if you're ATD or have a hardtop.

I have had both a MY00 and a MY04 and I really like the MY04 better. The glass rear window is a big plus and the extra torque really helps distribute the power. Also the MY04 feels more stable than the MY00.

The interior of the MY04 is also more refined with leather replacing carpet and silver timmings here and there.

Also, I like the revised body of the MY04, escpecially with the front lip and "old-school" spoiler. The 17 inch rims also fill out the gap in the wheel area nicely.

I paid $25k for my MY04 with 21,000 miles on it just 2 months ago. You can find some for the low $20k now, but mine came with a lot of mods.

I say get the MY04+ unless you can't afford it.

What an awesome quote! I'm getting my interior redone BUT I'm keeping the console carpet. It's so raw and minimal feeling. Every time I sit in an 02+ (and especially the AP2 with those ugly consoles) I am thankful that I bought a 2000.

I agree that you should basically find the best deal you can and go for that. Everyone is going to pretty much say that they think their version of the S is the best. However, the cheaper you go (such as 2000 model), the more you have to spend on a hardtop or gears or supercharger or nitrous or turbo or wheels or suspension or whatever else you might want

after driving an 00 and 03 and an 05. I would say get a 02-03. I love the 9K redline and the rear glass is a +. Although I love the cosmetic changes on the ap2, it still doesnt have that raw feeling as the ap1. But like previous posters have said, get whatever is in your budget. If you cant afford to dish out, then opt for the 00. However, if you really can dish out a little extra, then def get the 02. I hated the plastic window, made the car look cheap as hell.

I bought an '01 new, then traded up for an '03 last November. In addition to the glass rear window and other previously mentioned enhancements, the '02-'03 has some other nice benefits:

- better, more balanced suspension tuning (a non-issue if you plan on getting springs/coilovers)
- tweeter pods in doors. The stereo still sucked, but at least there's now a place to hide your aftermarket tweeters.

I loved my '01, but am very happy w/ the improvements to the '03 (not to mention changing from yellow, which I outgrew, to silver). Even though I passed on an '05 that I compared to the '03 I bought at the time, I could still see an AP2 in my future once my '03 has seen its better days.

Every year S2000 is a special car IMO. Like others said, conditon and color are probably more important than the year.
