I just discovered an article in a swiss magazine (AutomobilRevue July 2000) which stressed the fact that there is an important performance gap between an 1999 s2k model and a 2000 one. Honda denies the accuracy of the results but anyway here are the results (the text is in German but most should be clear): http://www.honda-s2000.de/05archiv/presse/...ue_19_werte.jpg

Of course, you know there are only 2000 and 2001 S2000 models, right?

Is that what you meant?

Maybe the year numbers reflect when the vehicle was built, rather than what model year it was. Remember that by about August this year (2001 I believe) you'll be seeing 2002 models all over the place. Why in heck do we need cars when auto manufacturers have time machines.

I don't find these results so 'inbelieveable' [sic]. Have a look at the temperature difference : 7, -7. That's 14 degrees difference. Hence the air was denser, which lets the engine suck in more air, the map sensor throws in more juice, and you've effectively got a bigger engine.

Add to this the experience of many S2000 owners who say the engine loosens up well after run in and just gets better and better the more you drive it.

Not that unbelieveable!

I think you will find that the figures do not relate to two different cars. the translation is:

"The first test at the end of October 1999"

and...

"A Further test in January 2000"

The figures are from the same car. The first figures show the car with 2500km on the clock in a temp of 7degC and the second shows the same car with 5000km and -7degC.

Not two different models - at least that is how it translates.

Hi guys,

if you read to complete article http://www.honda-s2000.de/05archiv/presse/...revue_19_gr.jpg
then it's clear that on the first car the clutch was slipping. And with the lower temperatures the tires slipped more easily.
Thus result is less drop in RPM's when taking off.
The first car was also tested after 2500KM, the
2nd time was after 5000KM. I've read before
that the car performs best after 10.000KM!

That's not true, the same site (great site
by the way! they also have a lot of english tests) has the original test: http://www.honda-s2000.de/05archiv/presse/...revue_03_gr.jpg
There the car is black, the second test is a red car.
Please don't reply with "of course red is faster" please.

Good point Ronald. For those who would like highly accurate monthly production numbers (including the Type V) I would click on the Japan flag on the S2Ki homepage. Our friend in Japan, FOE keeps accurate records of two of the three markets (i.e. Japan and US). Europe and Oceania are not charted (yet). When you click on the link a Japanese text message will come up. You can circumvent the download by hitting "cancel" a few times. Much of his site is in english....al be it entertaining english if you know what I mean. Click on S2000 and enjoy!
