I'm back ... actually at work so gotta get things done in between, just didn't log out ...
I believe the S2000 is new and was not a lease return, however am not certain (i.e. didn't ask). Funny thing is I had gone to the dealership to look at an '02 which had recently arrived only to find out it had been sold the night before (silver/black). I actually already drove the '01 S2000 from the dealership to their lot where they have most of their cars. That being said didn't get to "really" drive it since I had to follow someone and traffic was heavy. I told them I'd consider buying the '01 if I were to get a "really good" deal on it. They actually laughed at the idea of 28K a few days ago ... only to get a call today saying if I'm still interested they'd sell it for 28K.
This S2000 is also at College Park ... Do you remember how many miles were on the S2000's being sold for 25K.
Thanks for the feedback thus far. I'm leaning towards not buying this one and waiting for an '02. That being said the idea of waiting, when I could go buy one tonight is tough ... hmmmm

I must say I would prefer an '02 but saving a few thousand dollars also makes some sense. I'm in the process of buying/building a new townhouse as well and while it won't be done for 4-5 months, gotta at least consider saving money where I can. I was actually going to wait until after the house was done before I got back into the S2000 mindset, but when the dealer told me they would consider selling me an '02 for less than MSRP, I had to check it out. It's also the fact I really want one and want to be able to drive it during the spring, summer, fall ...

I wonder which paper?
Can someone check tomorrow and report back?
Dude, unless you wipe your behind with dollar bills, the changes in the 2002 model are NOT worth $5K.
The car sounds like a good deal. Hey, you get a 36,000 mile warranty. Even if someone touched the forbidden "VTEC Zone" during the first 600 miles, I can't imagine that this means CERTAIN DEATH for the motor. People need to relax a bit about this break-in stuff.
Some people have "new-car-itus" on this board and fear all things used. $5,000 is a whole lot of money to me. If it is to you and you like the car, then get it. It will be sold soon enough to someone else as it is only getting warmer around here.

I guess it depends on your budget, but the 2002 models have a lot of improvements, not the least of which is the glass rear window. That alone may be worth it. No more paranoia about whether you're scratching your window if it's dirty when you drop the top!
So, if you are patient and could wait to get one at MSRP someplace, the price diff. gets smaller. If you have the time and inkling to drive it back from the outer reaches to where you live, you can save the $1000 or so it would cost to ship it from that out of state dealer.
