Default 2001 S2000 - good deal?

I've been waiting to get an 2002 S2000 but ....

I have a Honda dealership willing to sell me an 2001 S2000 with approximately 340 miles on it for 28K ... "Gotta show up tonight ..." The S2000 also has the rear spoiler and side strakes already installed. My concern though is it is their test drive car and based on everything I've read, you shouldn't VTEC until at least after 600 miles are on the car. I can certainly assume as a test drive car, it's already been in VTEC land. That being said, this sounds like a great deal pricewise. Anybody foresee any potential future problems with the car based on this.

mpid

I was in your same situation 3 months ago and also posted a thread on S2ki asking for input. Here is the link because it provides the same answers to your question.

I also posted a thread about improper break-in issues at the same time.

The end of the 2nd thread has the outcome of my S2k decision.

Yes, improper break-in procedure is even worse than letting your engine idle for more than an hour!

That is a good price for the low mileage. Most likely the car was a lease that got turned in early. Sometimes this happens if a guy leases the car and finds out he can't afford it and sometimes it happens if some rich guy decides he doesn't like it.

I got my 2001 S2000 used with 3400 miles on it. It's in perfect condition. It was a lease turned in early by some poor guy who was laid off.

Just make sure you drive it. If you like it and there aren't any obvious problems you are good to go. You might be outside the first year of the full warranty though.
