I recently sold my 2021 M2C 6MT that had quite a lot of modifications. Ohlins, full exhaust, lots of carbon fiber, etc.
I’m thinking of buying a local AP1 2001 S2000 with 49k miles as a replacement. The car is black/black and in phenomenal condition. Price is just under $28k.
Only modifications are an AP2 front bumper, AP2 wheels with Pilot Super Sports, Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers and an Invidia Q300 exhaust I would swap back to the stock one.
Are you going to be cool with the huge gulf between the BMW and S2000 in terms of tech, power, and utility? This is like going from a laptop to a Ti-83.
I have a 2020 M4 with a ton of mods myself, I don't think my AP1 could replace it. They are two very different experiences in terms of power, tech, and comfort. I enjoy both cars, M4 is the perfect grand touring car, the S2000 puts smiles on my face on the way to the golf course on the weekends.
I have a 2021 Supra and the S2000. They fill two different voids. The M2 will certainly leave a void that the S2000 can't fill (outright power, capability, luxury, refinement), and the S2000 will provide in ways that the M2 couldn't (raw feel, driver engagement, perfect shifter). I like and miss both when they're far away from me.
For me, the S2000 is the one I can't sell. It provides an experience to me that I can't replace. I could sell the Supra tomorrow as the Supra/M2/insert-stupidly-fast-turbo-60k-sports-car-of-choice experience is an easy one to replace.
The s2000 will feel like you are driving a Toyota corolla in terms of power. If you can get over that you should be ok. Although f1 will make the s2k much faster then the bmw
Power is the biggest flaw with this car but that can be fixed easily. Just to put things in perspective...a new camry will out run a s2k on the straights. Personally I can't ever drive a stock s2000 after I went turbo.
^^ agreed.
My supercharged S2000 is quicker than my buddy's M2...
But they are two very different vehicles. Depending on where you live, you could drive the m2 as a daily year round. I would never say the same about an s2000...
If you're not looking to replace it though, and looking for a new and different but GREAT driving experience, then go for it!
Why did you sell the M2C? The S is a different beast. Very fun car. I still love driving it. I also own a GTR which I drive more for being quieter and more comfortable.
