Default 2001 s2k with 120k miles?

price is good, but mileage is pretty high. my main concern is what to look out for, and if i will have to likely put money down for a rebuild etc in a short amount of time? i can check for maintenance records etc, but have no idea what is the typical mileage before a rebuild is in order and how much that will cost?

or should I pass on it, and spend 4-5k more on an s2k with lower miles and perhaps a year newer? opinions?

the owner is asking 11.5k for the car. what do you think?

Id pass. Get an 00-03 with 45,000 miles or so for about 17,000.

Depends on what you feel comfortable spending.

I'd say go for it. It's a honda so it'll last a long time as long as the guy kept halfway decent care of it. Just hang on to that extra couple thousand for the things that may have to be replaced like the clutch. There are people here that have gotten well over the 120k mile mark with forced induction on these engines.

Rebuilding or replacing will cost a good bit because of the rarity of these cars though.

Remember, just take it to a mechanic and have them look at it. They will tell you just about all you need to know and if it's worth it and how much you may have to drop into it in the near future. He may say it's in good shape or he may tell you it needs new brakes, new tires, clutch, and the synchros in the tranny are shot.

I say go for it too. If my 2002 astro van is at 170000 miles with no problem at all. Bought it new and the only thing i did so far were tranny & diff fluids....and spark plugs (changed last week) then i don't see why the S won't last that long. Honda will last you a long long time, but then again...it's all depend on how much asbused the previous owner had done. Just like jfw432 had said...that the car to a trusted mechanic and let them check it out for you. G/L.

I would continue to look. With 120k the motor has already been broke in to how the previous owner drives. If the owner drove it mildly and you get and drive it aggressive the motor will not like it. Most cars also dont like being driven stock and then modified after they have high milage on them. I would try to atleast stay under 80k. However if you could afford the 4-6k for a jdm s2000 motor and trans in two years if the motor lets go, then go for it.

Good luck

The suspension-bushings are going to be tired with all those miles.
